We are looking for a Chemist/Biochemist with experience in analytical chemistry and materials identification, preferably with an understanding of related processes. Experience with immersion plating processes and electrochemistry in general is also desired. A successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of independence, creativity, innovation and resourcefulness in the support and application of advanced materials and processes in space and airborne applications.
Responsibilities includes: supporting (from a chemistry prospective) manufacturing process design and development, verifying materials requirements, translating requirements into specifications, provide mentorship to product designers, identification of unknown materials, failure analysis of materials, process and materials qualification, optimizing materials chemistry and processes to meet design requirements.
Specifically desired skills will include practical knowledge and experience operating and/or interpreting data from analytical testing instruments such as infrared spectroscopy, atomic absorption and emission spectroscopies, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, thermal and thermal-mechanical testing (e.g. TMA, DSC, TGA, DMA) and Auger/XPS surface analyses. General familiarity with quantitative and qualitative “wet chemistry” techniques, low and high vacuum equipment, sample collection, and laboratory safety and management are also desired. Specialty knowledge of immersion plating of metals and alloys is particularly desired. Strong candidates will also have good written and verbal communications skills.
