If you answered “yes”, the Design Synthesis Department within the Advanced Systems Development Center (ASDC) at Raytheon Missile Systems is interested to find out if you are a good addition to our team of advanced system engineers who synthesize system solutions that support business growth. The charter of the Design Synthesis Department is to develop art of the possible solutions to grow our business by providing right-sized engineering solutions to solve advanced engineering problems through forward thinking, reliable execution and collaboration.
We are seeking system engineers with expertise in applying advanced systems engineering methods to develop solutions in the front-end-of-the-business. This position requires solving problems in new product development by applying core system engineering experience to understand the mission needs of customers, translate those needs into conceptual solutions, develop requirements and address risk in proposals or new business capture. Candidates are expected to have technical depth in at least one specific technical discipline, plus technical breadth across several disciplines. Candidates should be able to execute projects through application of advanced systems engineering knowledge and skills while understanding of the interplay of missile-related technologies such as radar and electro-optical sensing, signal processing, guidance and navigation, propulsion, performance modeling, cost, test and development of hardware and software concepts and prototypes. Work involves synthesizing system solutions and resolving issues that are numerous and undefined and require detailed information-gathering, analyses and model-based system engineering (MBSE) techniques. The candidate should be forward thinking, and enjoy a fast-past environment. You will be expected to communicate with stakeholders to gain cooperation and influence decision-making. This includes stakeholders within engineering, program leadership, finance, supply chain, manufacturing and external customers. The candidate must be open to receiving and acting upon critical feedback.
Understand customer requirements, analyze capability gaps and translate into system solutions.
Decompose customer-level requirements into lower-level requirements.
Deliver system models to meet the technical needs and present system models at reviews.
Develop conceptual solutions with a variety of technologies, including navigation and control, aerospace, electronic systems and software.
Conduct presentations of system solution concepts and advise leadership.
Balance risk, speed and engineering rigor to develop system solutions to advanced missile system challenges and early product development.
Apply a systems-thinking mindset to look at the whole and the trade space, not just focus on point solutions.
Identify and assess risk, communicate risk and propose mitigations to decision makers.
Note: This position can be Salary Grade G07 (Systems Engineer II) or a Salary Grade G08 (Senior Systems Engineer I) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
Minimum two (2) years’ experience, with a B.S./B.A. in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
Experience in generic system modeling
Practical experience with requirements development: decomposition, allocation, integration, verification and validation
Practical experience with a system engineering requirements tool such as DOORS
Experience with a Systems Engineering tool suite such as Rhapsody (IBM), MagicDraw/Cameo (NoMagic), Enterprise Architect (Sparx), Artisan Studio/Integrity (PTC wasAtego), CORE/GENESYS (ViTech) or other.
Familiarity with a systems modeling language: SysML is preferred, but could include UML, UPDM, OPM or other.
Familiarity with Systems Engineering methodology such as Harmony, OOSEM or SYSMOD.
Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills to translate data into stories; ability to interface with customers, leadership and multi-disciplined engineering teams
Willingness to model systems is a must, along with willingness to work with the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure team as beta-tester for system modeling tools and techniques
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) secret clearance
This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
Must be willing to relocate to Tucson, AZ. Telecommuting is not an option.
