Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, a related specialized area or field, or equivalent experience is required.

Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Manufacturing Engineers lead and manage manufacturing projects and teams to meet cost, quality, and schedule targets in a fast paced, dynamic manufacturing environment. The position requires significant interaction with manufacturing team members who are engaged in engineering, planning, and building high reliability/long life mechanical, electrical, and optical products for Undersea Systems.
Establish and maintain manufacturing processes
Generate product masters & routing information
Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assembliesInterfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products
Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
Implements and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects
Develops manufacturing engineering plans and strategies for specific products and processes
Installs manufacturing process systems and conducts production qualification, forecasts and manages manufacturing process capital assets
Using lean concepts acts as a project engineer to implement cost reduction efforts
Documents procedures, process qualifications, work instructions, shop aids, routings, etc.
Provides process analysis to support new business (NPI) opportunity assessment and quoting
Identifies training for production related activities
Provides solutions to vendor issues as required
Develops floor layouts

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills
Clear understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theories
Clear understanding with manufacturing processes and electrical/mechanical components, systems and applications
Clear understanding of Microsoft Office applications
Good written and verbal communications skills
Creative thinker

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with up to 2 years of related experience working in a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and MS Office programs (Excel, Project, and Powerpoint)
Strong skills in multitasking, problem solving, and ethical decision making
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience working on government contracts
Facilities planning or project management experience
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma techniques and tools
Knowledge of molding, soldering, or fiber optic splicing equipment and processes
