This role serves as part of a team that is a key component of the Food Safety program at Conagra Brands. The person filling this role must be able to function independently to help design and implement food safety programs within given areas of the food safety and quality group. Thus, the Senior Food Safety Specialist must be an effective listener and communicator, knowledgeable yet humble, both a leader and a team player, and energetic and enthusiastic about the food safety goals and objectives.
Assist with maintenance and development of all HACCP/ Food Safety (FSMA ) Plans, Ingredient Risk Assessments, and Food Defense plans, and verifies effectiveness through trend analysis
Ensure HACCP/Food Safety Plans remain current and accurate through continual evaluation of process efficiencies
Provide guidance and leadership to manufacturing facilities regarding the implementation and management of risk based preventive controls (ex: CCP’s, PP’s etc) for microbial, chemical and physical hazards
Serve as an extended member of the HACCP/Food Safety Plan team who reviews and approves food safety plans
Collaborates and communicates issues to affected functional groups (including Supplier quality, external manufacturers) and business units to ensure regulatory information, interpretations and guidance are developed; ensures that CAG Regulatory & Scientific resources are consulted and efforts are aligned to appropriately address broader compliance issues.
Update existing food safety policies and procedures through direct collaboration with cross-functional teams (including Senior Leadership Team) within food safety and quality
Interacts with key internal stakeholders such as Operations, Supply Chain Quality, Supplier Quality, external manufacturers and others on food safety-related issues, policies, programs and procedures
Champion a culture mindset of food safety first and foremost both horizontally and vertically across the Conagra Brands enterprise
B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Ag Engineering or Food Science or a technically related field required; MS preferred.
Minimum of 5 years industry experience preferred.
Strong skills in problem-solving, proven abilities to interpret diverse data sets in a logical and rational fashion.
Experience with food safety, food manufacturing processes, technologies or other relevant area of responsibility.
HACCP training required; SQF Practitioner or BRC training course a plus
Comprehensive knowledge of FSMA, USDA, PMO regulations. Seafood HACCP experience a plus
Knowledge of statistics is a strong plus
Excellent report writing, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
Demonstrated project management skills
Ability to travel upto 25% of the time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible ConAgra Foods, Inc. representative.
