Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.
Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is required with a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
The Senior Software Engineer will develop new capabilities, maintain and enhance existing capabilities, and write unit and integration tests for a customized container orchestration framework built on Kubernetes and Docker. The candidate must have experience writing and maintaining in Java server RESTful APIs and client interfaces to complex external RESTful APIs, as well as having solid user-level familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker for deploying and managing service-based applications. Additional responsibilities could include developing GUI interfaces to internal and/or external APIs to satisfy operational customer needs/requirements.
In this position, the Senior Software Engineer will work on a small agile team, performing primary development in an unclassified environment but doing primary customer support in a classified environment. GUI work would involve augmenting a remote UI team that maintains its own core component library and boilerplate UI project for rapid prototyping.
Basic skills and experience:
Experience building complex RESTful applications in Java (1.8 or later) using modern build tools such as Gradle
Experience building Python and Django applications
Experience building dynamic web GUIs targeting multiple backend RESTful APIs, using Node.js and especially React, Redux and Express
Experience coding with mainstream Java test frameworks such as JUnit
User-level experience building and deploying Docker containers
User-level experience deploying complex applications with Kubernetes
Experience working in a Linux environment
Preferred skills and experience:
Experience writing code interacting at the API level with Kubernetes
Experience developing large distributed service-based containerized applications
Experience with tool suites supporting agile CI/CD workflows, such as GitLab, Jenkins or the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bit Bucket, Crucible)
