Description:The Optical Payload Center of Excellence (OPCOE) for Lockheed Martin Space pursues, develops, designs, and delivers optical payloads for air, ground, and space, for customers in commercial, defense, and civil markets. OPCoE reports within the LM-Space central Engineering and Technology organization and is tasked with providing optical payload technology support to the enterprise lines of business (LOBs). Responsibilities of the organization span the program life cycle, from technology development through business capture, and into program execution. In this capacity, OPCoE furthers LOB growth objectives by defining and executing IRAD programs to develop discriminators for future procurements, develops full EO payload solutions and supports LOB proposal efforts, acts as an agent for LOB procurement of EO payload technologies/solutions when needed, and provides program management and engineering staff for execution of EO programs and program elements.
Lockheed Martin Optical Payload Center of Excellence (OPCoE) is seeking candidates with focal plane array technology expertise and general optical payload systems engineering experience. Responsibilities of this technical role include design, analysis, fabrication, test, and operation of electro-optical systems for DoD, NASA, and commercial customers, with a focus on detector technologies and associated componentry. The successful candidate will lead the development of passive (UV, Visible, IR) and active (LIDAR) payload systems for space applications within OPCoE. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will transition over time from a focus on FPA technologies and technology applications into an EO payload systems engineering capacity in which they will play a lead role in architecting and implementing system-level payload solutions across multiple missions.
Basic Qualifications:
Background in electro-optic sensor and/or payload systems
Experience in providing conceptual guidance in the design and test of low noise focal plane detectors used in high-speed video, LIDAR and scientific space-based applications.
Experience reviewing detector designs and layouts.
Experience developing system requirements used to specify, develop and design custom detectors.
Experience performing detector system analysis including radiometric analysis, MTF analysis, noise analysis, and radiation effects modeling.
Willingness and interest in transitioning from an FPA technology and assembly focused role into an expanded role with responsibilities at the EO payload system level.
Excellent technical writing skills. You will participate in or lead proposal technical sections to win new business for Lockheed Martin, delivering very complex system designs in clear, concise language.
Desired Skills:
Experience identifying opportunities for internal research and development programs and lead funded projects to success.
Experience contributing to the development of the road map for detector systems.
Familiarity with integration, test and verification of electronics and sensor systems
Experience working directly with detector and electronics hardware to demonstrate performance, to debug operational issues, and to characterize devices.
Experience leading cross-functional teams including optical, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and systems engineers to develop and to optimize detector system performance.
Experience managing cost, schedule, and system performance to meet program goals.
Experience with technical and programmatic interactions with subcontractors.
Strong systems engineering skills, to include multidisciplinary collaboration (thermal, mechanical, dynamics, etc) and experience with generation of requirement specifications and interface control documentation.
Experience with detector operation in radiation environments.
Experience with detector operation in a tactical environment and/or experience with space qualified hardware.
Ability to obtain a clearance.
Willingness and interest in transitioning from an FPA technology and assembly focused role into an expanded role with responsibilities at the EO payload system level.
