Performs construction, removal, and rearrangement of open-wire, coax, fiber optic and carrier cable communication equipment. Examines work orders and wiring diagram to determine installation or repair procedures. Inspects connections, fittings, and installed wire and cable sections for conformance to specifications.
Installs, tests, and repairs communications equipment, such as intercom systems, wired alarms, UHF/VHF radios, and telephones using schematic diagrams, testing devices, and hand tools. Assembles telephone equipment, mounts brackets, and connects wire leads. Tests newly installed equipment and repairs or replaces faulty equipment, using test telephone and other testing devices. Installs equipment according to layout plans and connects units with inside and outside service wires. Maintains equipment and analyzes operational malfunctioning with testing devices, such as oscilloscopes, generators, meters, and electric bridges, to locate and diagnose nature of defect and necessary repairs. Examines mechanism and disassembles components to replace, clean, adjust or repair parts, wires, switches, relays, circuits, or signaling units. Operates and tests equipment to ensure elimination of malfunction. Climbs towers to install or repair communication lines. May repair cables, lay out plans for new equipment and estimate materials required. Assists with installation of LAN/WAN equipment, wiring, and topography.

Cross-trained and qualified to maintain at least two communication systems examples include but not limited to Ground Tracking, AVIAT/Stratex microwave radios or air to ground radios.
Minimum Experience Requirements
Five yearsâ?? experience in Telecommunications Installation and Maintenance
Five yearsâ?? experience in the following disciplines/equipment:
Telephone/Network Switches, Networking, Routers, Hubs, repeaters and Bridges, DSUs Wiring/Cabling Video Systems Fiber Optics UHF/VHF/Microwave Transmitters, antennas Power Systems (UPS, DC, AC) Weapons Scoring Systems (EO, IR, Video, PTZ)
Minimum Position-Specific Training Required
Formal classroom education equivalent to Navy â??Câ?? School or vocational school with formal training in the field of electronic equipment maintenance and equipment manufacturer training,
DOD Network Security Training
â?¢Tower climbing training, on the job certification by SWTTR Trained Trainer if not.
â?¢Must possess and maintain an active DoD Security clearance
Possess a valid state Driverâ??s License.
Security + certification or Network + certification
Tower safety and rescue certified
