Bring your talent and skills to the Raytheon IIS engineering team!

The Senior Software Engineer will work with an experienced team of software developers to design and implement a small satellite system through the entire software lifecycle including architecture, development, test and delivery. The primary responsibility will be to coordinate a team of software engineers and guide the design and development of a small satellite system. The team will work closely with Systems Engineers to design and implement ideal solutions with the end user needs in mind.

The specific skills required include strong management skills, programming skills (Java/C++), analytical skills, space domain knowledge, and strong communication skills. The candidate should be a “big picture thinker” with a background in space systems. The candidate’s responsibilities will require interactions with a wide variety of personnel and technical backgrounds so strong communication skills are important.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Required Skills:

  • 8 or more years of programming experience in Java and/or C++
  • 8 or more years of relevant software development experience
  • Experience in satellite, ground, and/or communications systems development
  • Demonstrated experience leading a software development team and ability to work effectively in a dynamic technical environment with customers
  • Experience monitoring and managing project technical, cost, and schedule performance
  • Knowledge and understanding of software development lifecycles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to include oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a geographically distributed team
  • Willingness to travel to other contractor and/or Government facilities to support duties

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience developing software for satellite systems including ground and flight software including one or more specific technologies:
    • Satellite ground systems
    • Mission Management systems
    • Planning and Scheduling
    • Command and Telemetry
    • Flight Dynamics models
    • Digital Signal Processing
  • Experience issuing requests for proposal, evaluating proposals, and managing contracts with external vendors
  • Experience setting up development pipelines using development tools such as Jenkins
  • Experience programming Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA)
  • Experience with Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGI)
  • Experience with the Goddard Mission Services Evolution Center (GMSEC) application programming interface
  • Experience with requirements and use case analysis
  • Experience with scripting (JavaScript, Python, Perl, etc.)

EDUCATION:
Bachelor or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics or other equivalent fields

Clearance Requirements: TS/SCI required
