JOB DESCRIPTION: This position will provide software systems engineering support to multiple teams within the Human Dimension Support Systems contract in Austin, TX, to include supporting Pilot Training Next (PTN) for the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) for the USAF, among other projects. AETC is venturing to explore the ways in which existing and emerging technologies, including blended and data-centric education, can revolutionize learning and decrease the time and cost of training without sacrificing the quality. Some technologies that will be employed include augmented and virtual reality, advanced biometrics, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
Interface with users, even through passive observation, to understand their needs, workflow, dataflow, and operational procedures, and to translate those interactions into engineering artifacts, such as use cases and system requirements.
Analyze system functional and interface requirements to architect and design solutions and tradeoffs to meet those requirements. Need to be proficient, or at least knowledgeable enough, in the applicable technologies, components, and/or products to make sound decisions about the viability/feasibility of solutions.
Develop execution plans that deliver minimum viable products as soon as possible, plans that incorporate user feedback into project execution, and plans that are responsive to changing requirements.
Experience integrating hardware and software systems to create coherent solutions to specific problems.
Interact with and manage interfaces with 3rd party suppliers of hardware and software components that are to be integrated into the system.
Be comfortable participating in capability demonstrations that may be at various levels of maturity/completeness, accepting both positive and negative feedback, and making every customer/user/vendor engagement productive.
Be able to see the project from the “10,000 foot” level; be able to pull yourself out of what can be a chaotic day-to-day, to see the big picture, identify the problems, craft a solution, and, if necessary, articulate the solution to the appropriate people to execute.
Be comfortable with interfacing directly with the customer to communicate project status, plans, and possibilities. Manage customer expectations of technical execution – schedule, milestones, and risks.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
5 years’ experience in technical planning, high level and detailed requirements definition, test planning and execution (to include use cases, test procedures and test data),software systems integration, and technical support for software systems and subsystems.
Total software system product may include: concept design, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
Experience leading a technical team is required.
Experience programming in multiple operating systems (Windows/Linux), languages/frameworks (Java, Spring) is required.
Experience designing, implementing or interfacing with relational databases is required.
Experience Learning Record Stores is desired.
Full-stack development experience (familiarity with both front-end and back-end development) is desired.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and task tracking tools (JIRA) is desired.
Experience with containers and DevOps concepts is desired.
Must be comfortable working within a diverse team including test engineers, data scientists.
Must be willing to iterate with end users of system to adapt system requirements to changing needs
Must be a self- starter and be able to work smoothly as a member of a technical team.
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
