Supports the product development initiatives of the total condiments & enhancers business within the Canadian and Global Market portfolio. Will be the lead developer on condiments & enhancers and a key member of cross functional projects teams ensuring connections between the US and connections across International. Will be the primary contact for Canadian plants, providing support on new product innovation, renovations and productivity projects for their brands. Will be the primary PD contact responsible for the Frontera sauces integration. Will be trusted to share project information with Mexico and India teams in International.
With support from the reporting manager, develops product development plans and executes projects that align to Canada and Global Market strategic goals.
Responsible for all condiment & enhancer products sold and all relevant projects initiated in Canada and Global Markets, from concept to successful commercialization and verification (CQV). Includes new innovation, line extensions, product renovations, maintenance and productivity projects. Work to include contemporizing flavor, texture and nutritional profiles of products. Will provide exposure to US brands such as Frontera, Rotel, Manwich, PAM as well as regional brands such as Hunts, Aylmer, VH (Canada) and Hunts (Global Markets).
Provides technical support to business teams to ensure effective and efficient manufacturing of products. With support from the reporting manager, coordinates and executes plans for bench work, pilot, plant trials and production start ups, where applicable.
Works closely with the Marketing teams. Will be a key member of cross functional project teams that actively participates, provides feedback and recommendations.
Develops and issues Consumer Based Specifications for formula, processing and raw ingredient specifications.
Leverages the total R&D organization and stays connected to the US and other International initiatives ensuring translation to Canada and Global Markets, where applicable. Will be the liaison for sharing project information across International to the Mexico and India teams.
Responsible for securing and approving samples for Sales/Marketing submission ensuring sales sample readiness
Will lead the development and presentation of the R&D portion of progressive selling interactions with key customers.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
BS Degree in Food Science or related field required
3 years relevant work experience
Knowledge of basic food unit operations, product functionality and safety
Requires knowledge in food product design, formulation, ingredient functionality and interaction, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization
Plant start-up experience is desirable
Ability to be self-directed, forward thinking and make decisions that drive business performance; able to work independently with a remote manager
Demonstrates agility in being able to manage multiple platforms and multiple projects simultaneously
Strong communication skills (presentation, oral and written)
Strong relationship skills to achieve partnership and collaboration, both internally and externally
Good working knowledge of information systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, SAP
Language/Fluency: English
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs., as needed
Driving a company or rental automobile 4 – 6 hours, as needed
Use of pilot plant equipment
Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, heat, cold, wet and slippery conditions
Ability to move safely and freely around machinery in both manufacturing and pilot plants
