The Chemical Analysis Section within Materials Engineering provides chemical analysis expertise to support manufacturing processes, failure analysis, new process development, and materials selection and design.
This position is within the Chemical Analysis Section and will require interaction with senior personnel within the Materials Engineering Department, manufacturing engineers and operators, and chemical / material suppliers. Activities may include chemical recertifications, lot acceptance testing, chemical requalification testing, and failure analysis support.
This position will require hands-on laboratory work. Typical laboratory skills that may be required include the following:
Preparation of lap shear samples
Materials identification using Fourier Transfer Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy
Knowledge of Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Technical writing skills
Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
Hands-on laboratory experience
Working knowledge of military and commercial materials and process specifications
Working knowledge of standard test methods (ex. ASTM)
Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical techniques
Qualified Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist or equivalent
Active DoD Clearance (Secret, Confidential)
Experience with analytical laboratory equipment: Ion Chromatography (IC), FTIR, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermal Gravametric Analysis (TGA), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Thermal Mechanical Analysis (TMA), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS), Thermal Conductivity Analysis, Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES)
Required Education (including Major):
MS required in Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other applicable technical discipline.
