The North Warning System (NWS) is a joint Canada and United States radar system that includes 47 sites spanning the Arctic from Labrador to the Alaskan border. The NWS provides the capability to detect airborne threats across North America’s polar region, providing a command and control capability to the Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS) of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).
Raytheon provides Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services for the NWS including full care, custody, and control of the entire system and its components. This includes the radar sites, five logistics support sites (LSSs), a monitoring and control center, and a repair depot. Key activities include maintenance and repair of radar and electronic systems, power generation, and facilities; logistics support; and remote monitoring and control.
Raytheon Canada Limited (RCL) implements an Inuit Training and Development Program (ITDP) that benefits communities within the Comprehensive Land Claim Agreements (CLCA). The purpose of the program is to actively recruit, develop, and train Inuit Beneficiaries (IBs) for employment on the North Warning System (NWS) Program and foster employee-retention and skills development for Inuit Beneficiary employees at all levels.
Raytheon seeks one Heavy Equipment Operator (Tractor, Loader, Backhoe) (HEO-TLB) apprentice. The apprentice will be located in Hall Beach, Nunavut (Zone 3). An apprentice is provided with a combination of on-the-job training and college training courses that lead to becoming qualified as a HEO-TLB. Through hands-on and accelerated training, the Trainee program will enable individuals to work and develop the necessary skills to seek jobs not readily achievable prior to entering the program.
This position is a temporary position with a possibility of extension and is designed to provide an individual with the necessary skills to be employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator - Tractor, Loader, and Backhoe. The Apprentice is responsible to learn operations of heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front-end loaders, excavators, graders, compactors, and other pieces of equipment alongside a licensed heavy equipment operator.
The HEO-TLB Apprentice must also learn to clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.
Required Skills:
• Good communication skills in both oral and writing, strong interpersonal skills with an ambition to learn and grow knowledge and experience.
• Willing and able to attend training courses and maintain a strong desire to develop the skills necessary to become a licensed HEO
• Must be able to provide Inuit land claims and registration numbers(s)
Desired Skills:
• Ability to speak Inuktitut;
Required Education (including Major):
• Individuals who have completed high school with a diploma or general equivalency
