Job Title: Senior Welding Engineer

Raytheon Company’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED)
leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Engineering Directorate uses state of the art tools, processes, technology and Raytheon Six Sigma principles.

The Processes and Operations section of the Materials Engineering Department provides support manufacturing operations with technical expertise, laboratory capabilities and field experience. The group provides technical support for all phases of design, manufacturing and field support by supplying technical expertise in metallurgy, composites, coatings, chemistry, bonding, potting, encapsulation, welding, brazing, heat treating, nondestructive testing and corrosion/deterioration prevention. This section also aids in the transition from design to production and related manufacturing challenges. This section participates in supporting operations both within Raytheon facilities and at subcontractor, supplier, field and customer locations.

Job Description:

The Processes and Operations section of the Materials Engineering Department is currently in need of an individual with technical expertise in Welding Engineering to support all phases of design and manufacturing. Duties will include design for manufacturability reviews, process selection and definition, supplier assessment and recommendation, failure analysis, weld inspection, welding procedure development, training of welders and weld inspectors, and administration of the weld certification program. The majority of time will be spent supporting manufacturing operations by performing technical assessments, implementing process and design refinements, and monitoring and improving the quality of welded products.

This position can be a Salary Grade G08 or Salary G09 based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the positions.




Required Skills:

  • 4+ years of related experience
  • Candidate must be bilingual in both Polish and English languages, written and verbal.
  • Experience in welding procedure development and testing, welder and welding operator training and certifications, welding fabrication problem solving and weld inspection.
  • Experience in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and other technical material and then translating into practical procedural instructions.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing and quality organizations
  • Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Welding Specifications
  • Working knowledge of European (ISO) Welding Specifications
  • Basic understanding of welding metallurgy
  • Must be self-motivated and possess good communication skills in both English and Polish languages
  • Desire and ability to work as a team member is essential
  • Must be adaptable and willing to work in all project phases from concept and design through manufacturing
  • Practical knowledge of metal processing operations
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to identify root cause and implement appropriate corrective/preventative actions in the weld shop.
  • Experience in training and qualifying welders and inspectors to meet specification requirements.
  • AWS QC-1 Certified Welding Inspector
  • Testing laboratory skills including sectioning, metallography, fracture analysis, hardness testing, etc.
  • Non-destructive Testing certifications
  • Experience with aluminum and structural steel welding
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical techniques.
Required Education (including Major):
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (or European equivalent) in Welding Engineering or a related Engineering discipline. Alternatively, multiple years of relevant field experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. (Two years related work experience can substitute for one year of education)
  • This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
