Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 6 years of related experience.
An AA Degree or certification in assigned area is preferred if appropriate
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Sr Advanced Shipping Associate. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Performs or supports the physical or administrative tasks involved in the shipping, materials, parts, supplies, and equipment
Possesses necessary computer skills to locate and manage all required data and may prepare metrics
Monitors and coordinates shipping activities, maintain daily status for work area activities, and ensure adherence to scheduling requirements
Coordinates and consolidates domestic and international systems to support shipments
Ensure lowest cost transportation by analyzing company and customer needs, researching transportation methods and auditing carrier costs and performances
Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Receive and unload materials both manually or with lift equipment; check for damaged goods; verify quantity and quality of order; verify items received with PO and without
Verify and keep records on all incoming and outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment
Validate all weights and dimensions and create bills of lading or other shipping documentation
Monitor and coordinate shipping and receiving activities, maintain daily status for work area and ensure adherence to schedule requirements
Coordinate with purchasing department on a daily basis to ensure accurate and timely receipt and shipment of all materials
Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or prepare pre-assembled containers, ensuring all parts shipped are properly protected
Unpack and examine all incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages and correspond with other entities to include freight carriers to rectify damages/shortages
Identifies and develops processes to reduce bottlenecks and cycle time
Uses effective communication skills to work with teams on issues and team conflicts
Assists in the development and execution of processes and procedures
Champions change and acts to support change when directed by management
May gather data for internal audits and participate in audits
Actively develops continuous improvement strategies
Provides new and current training, mentoring and team building
Sets and works toward team goals and schedule and prioritize work for team members as job requires
Performs specialized project tasks & assignments of a more complex nature
May possess specialized certifications such as IATA, 49CFR
Interprets laws, rules and regulations regarding shipping of exports and hazardous shipments

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Distinct knowledge in specialized functions
Distinct knowledge of scheduling techniques and prioritization methodologies
Distinct organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
Strong communication skill and customer service skills, both verbal and written
Experience handling, storing and shipping materials; operating material handling equipment
Import/Export experience a plus
Experience shipping/receiving hazardous materials
Familiar with government shipping documents (I.E DD Form 1149)
