This position is responsible for the quality assurance management operations at the Waterloo, IA facility. The Team Lead supports, implements and monitors the plant quality systems, auditing, product release, quality incident and consumer complaint resolution, analytical testing and equipment and other quality duties.
Essential Functions:
Coordinates quality assurance activities and provide technical assistance and training to personnel.
Provides direction for the Quality Assurance Coordinator.
Collects and maintains all documents necessary to ensure that quality and food safety programs can function and control manufacturing processes
Develops and maintains a comprehensive filing system and computer database for all documents. Responsible for ensuring control over all document formatting within the plant.
Build Daily Run and Lot Release Summaries.
Acts as primary product disposition and release point person for finished product.
Coordination, performance, and documentation remediation of product on hold. Maintains HOLD log and audit.
Provides support for sample gathering and data recording for plant trials.
Leads quality incident and critical complaint investigations.
Owns pillar work streams.
Assists Sanitation Team Lead with environmental monitoring program.
Monitors and verify the HACCP/HARPC plan’s CCP’s and assure documents required by regulatory are properly reviewed and filed.
Reviews/monitors quality systems requirements (SQF, HAACP/HARPC, net weights).
Subject Matter Expert for analytical labs and result recording.
Prepares written documents describing analysis techniques and test results. Writes and reviews SOP’s and other quality documents and reports.
Communicates with all levels of the organization in review of test results.
Gathers special samples for additional incubation and defects audits as directed.
Conducts audits to verify compliance with established SOP documentation, GMP’s, sanitation and Safe Quality Food (SQF) efforts.
Assists with audits (i.e. SQF, regulatory, customer, internal).
Participates and leads process improvement projects. Participates in cross-functional teams.
Coordinates and participates in quality inspection pallet tear-down.
Participates and leads quality meetings and training.
Supports the assessment and management of Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP).
Assists with the compilation of nutritional or customer required sampling.
Assists with the implementation of quality initiatives.
Monitors and reviews SPC data and reports.
Provides support for Infinity (i.e. table maintenance, add new SKU’s, review results).
Work with operations personnel on quality and food safety issues and verify operations control systems are functional and being followed.
Ensures Master Document Register is updated and functioning.
Acts as a plant resource for document control (i.e. all department templates, formats, and document numbers).
Maintains computer database of all filed documentation that ensures fast retrieval of documents. Manages obsolete documents.
Ensures SQF and HACCP/HARPC programs are organized.
Assists in creating a validation schedule for quality and food safety programs.
Assists with recipe management (i.e. Master Book of Records).
Assists with quality and food safety audits (SQF, regulatory, customer, internal).
Participates and leads quality meetings and training.
Assists in updating the local electronic quality manual.
Provides back-up for Quality Coordinator and Supplier Quality Specialist positions.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree in science, technology or related field. Microbiological degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years experience in food industry
Two years supervisory experience
Additional Requirements:
Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), SQF and HACCP/HARPC.
Self-motivated. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to think ahead and plan over an extended time period and prepare action plans to achieve results
Knowledge of aseptic (laboratory) methods, measures, and practices
Understanding technical vendor manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
Knowledge of instrumentation (temperature, pressure, etc.)
Experience in leading root cause analysis activities
Ability to interpret a variety of technical information in mathematical and/or narrative form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Knowledge of TPM, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
Knowledge of FDA and USDA policies and procedures
Computer Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
SAP experience preferred.
Infinity experience preferred.
Work Environment Requirements:
Position works in a manufacturing environment with varying conditions.
Business needs may require support outside of normal work hours.
Ability to move within office and manufacturing facilities, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.
Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.
Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.
