Job Description: The Mechanical Subsystems Directorate is seeking a senior level Designer/Drafter in the Mechanical Design Integrity Department. In this role you will perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations. They will develop solutions for a variety of complex problems using established precedents and policies for guidance. The work will be performed without appreciable direction either individually, in a team environment, or in a supervisory capacity. The senior level Designer/Drafter will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems to prepare mechanical design layouts, detail, assembly drawings, models (including but not limited to packaging, mechanisms, and castings) and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and/or military specifications.
Note: This position can be Salary Grade G08 (Sr Mechanical Engineer I) or Salary Grade G09 (Sr Mechanical Engineer II) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience with mechanical design which may include areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, harnessing, structures, cabling, surfacing and mechanisms
Candidate will have a complete understanding of basic principles, theories and concepts for creation and preparation of engineering design documentation
Candidate will have a full knowledge of industry practices and standards used in drafting, modeling and design development or revision
Candidate will be able to identify and correct design, model, or drawing errors, omissions, deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions or improvements
Candidate will have the ability to apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Technical knowledge sufficient to perform complex tasks such as preparation of all types of detail drawings, large assemblies, castings, interface drawings, various layouts for design concepts, and many other high level tasks
Technical knowledge using documentation specifications such as MIL-STD-31000, Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Required
Advanced experience of NX (Unigraphics) solid modeling CAD tool or other equivalent tool.
Considerable knowledge of Windchill data management (PDM) tool.
Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and other engineering disciplines.
Required Education (including Major): Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university or equivalent professional experience.
Required Security Clearance Hold a current DD Secret clearance and have the ability to obtain a Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (SCI) upon commencing work. 128993
