Job duties include:

  • Defining and establishing manufacturing processes that are cost effective and meet quality requirement.
  • Improving processes to increase productivity and competitiveness
  • Close interaction with personnel responsible for NC programming, inspection equipment programming, machining, assembly, tool design and methodization
  • Day to day interaction with internal and external personnel including: all levels of management, design engineers, supply chain, fabrication and process engineering
  • Meeting cost & schedule commitments while maintaining high standards of quality
  • Ability to work as a cohesive team
  • Mentoring junior and mid-level career manufacturing engineers
  • Leading DFSS/DMADV lean initiatives

Note: This position can be Salary Grade G10 (Principal Mechanical Engineer) or Salary Grade G11 (Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.

Required skills:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience establishing cost effective production methods in a machined component manufacturing environment
  • Proven knowledge of production planning of products including: work instruction generation, fixture requirements, process flow analysis, and labor estimate generation
  • Familiar with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), or the Six Sigma DMADV process (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify)
  • Candidate must be proficient at reading and understanding written shop processes, engineering blueprints, engineering change notices, work instructions, procedures, routers, geometric dimension, and tolerance
  • Solid understanding of fixture design requirements (i.e. datums, clamping, cutting forces, wear, etc.) and fabrication.
  • Strong knowledge of machining, assembly and inspection processes for complex, tight tolerance 5-axis machined parts.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with machinists, support groups, customers, and management
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability in resolving complex problems arising during the fabrication process. Includes investigation and recommendations for productivity enhancements
  • Prior experience with CAD/CAM software
  • Highly competent, trustworthy, strong relationship management skills, and exceptional interpersonal communication skills

Desired skills:

  • Preferably 12+ years of related experience establishing cost effective production methods in a machined component manufacturing environment
  • Experience with any of the following software systems/tools: SAP, Siemens NX or Pro-Engineer/Creo, PC-DMIS.
  • Experience with various material types to include; metals, plastics, and advanced composites.
  • Experience in tolerance analysis, stack up in components, and multi-level assemblies.

Required Education:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum of eight years of experience with manufacturing processes setup and optimization, or six years with a Master’s Degree

Required Security Clearance
Hold a current DD Secret clearance and have the ability to obtain a Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (SCI) upon commencing work.
