As a Cementing Engineer I, you will use your technical knowledge and leadership skills to assist with the successful completion of a cementing job. Your duties include, but are not limited to assisting with solutions development, job preparation, providing onsite well support, post job analysis, and ensuring that the company’s cementing best practices and procedures are being utilized. Responsible for performing tasks requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
Conducts activities in accordance with the Company’s HSE guidelines. Promotes safety awareness and complies with all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
Assists senior cementing engineers with job planning, job design, and job execution for various cementing applications. Assists in coordinating equipment and materials for assigned jobs.
Based upon customer job requirements and requests, may be required to provide cement job design and evaluation feedback.
As needed, assists with RFP/Tender preparation and submission, in accordance with company and customer requirements.
Provides support to field operating and sales personnel.
Travels to and assists in performing engineering functions at the well site. May spend time as a member of a cement crew, to further gain and develop operational experience and knowledge in cementing.
Develop the knowledge and ability to diagram various cementing job layouts, identifying where equipment will be spotted, and the tie-in points to the plug container or wellhead, and annulus.
Assist in step-by-step cementing job procedure development.
Perform all required cementing job calculations for standard and remedial cement jobs.
Develop and build knowledge of all cement mixing and pumping equipment within district. Must be able to identify all fluid flow paths, fluid inlet and outlets, and mixing systems. As a Cementing Engineer I, you will be required to gain knowledge and the capability to mix and pump cement on at least three cementing jobs, while supervised.
Assist senior cementing engineers with post-job evaluation and interpretation, and the implementation and application of engineering and technological solutions to solve or prevent future cementing job problems.
Able to perform all lab tests typically run in district, and able to explain why different test types are performed.
Assist with cement slurry design development. Requires knowledge of the different classes of cementing additives and their purposes.
Develop and build knowledge of the Bulk Plant and its operations. Understand value chain activities, blending and loading procedures, and QAQC practices.
Develop and build knowledge of API/ISO recommended practices or standards, that are relevant to cementing and lab testing activity in your district.
Gain formal training and be able to complete cement job simulations using Cempro+ and CentraDesign.
Promote teamwork on a continuous basis.
Perform other essential functions as assigned by management.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A basic understanding of hydraulics, mechanical power, and chemistry.
Experience interpreting complex technical written material and effectively communicating researched information.
Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office applications, Excel, MS Word, etc.
Self-motivation and ability to work independently.
Multitasking, interpersonal communication and attention to detail are all required skills.
Required Experience and Education
3 – 4 years BSc degree in Engineering/Science.
One or more years of experience as a Cementing Engineer Trainee. Accumulated filed or laboratory experience may also be accepted.
Valid Driver’s License.
Eligible to work in the United States.
