Raytheon Company, an aerospace and defense company, is currently accepting applications for a Technical Librarian in its Dallas, TX library.

The desired candidate will possess 2+ years of library experience. The Librarian will provide technical research services including searching of technical databases and the acquisition of documents and digitizing of current physical archive material; will undertake activities to promote awareness and understanding of information support services. In addition, the Librarian will work independently as well as participating on project teams. The Librarian will be a member of the Raytheon Library Network working to ensure the development of an up-to-date and relevant collection of electronic resources, supplemented by print and audiovisual material to meet the Company’s need for access to information required for program support.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops library processes, library tasks and schedules in working with management and team members.
  • Provides training to team members as required.
  • Management of library budget and purchasing of materials for customers.
  • Selects and maintains extensive literature resources and continuous contacts with local, national and international information centers, vendors and agencies.
  • Performs on-line literature searches in technical, mechanical, scientific and business disciplines using various platforms. Analyzes and evaluates information and extracts pertinent information.
  • Maintains and improves information retrieval capabilities.
  • Answers reference questions and provides on-demand user assistance.
  • Performs cataloging of library materials in various formats.
  • Provides training to patrons on library services, including presentations in front of large audiences.
  • Performs shelving, shelf-reading, recalling overdue items, weeding, acquisition and other general library duties.
  • Support all SAS and department initiatives in optimizing library services.
  • Climbing of small ladders while shelving of books, and lifting and carrying of objects up to 20 lbs.

Required Skills (minimum):
  • Minimum of 2 years library experience
  • Familiar with OCLC, AACR2, LCCN, LCSH, MARC 21.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively as a team.
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks and work under deadlines in a multi-tasking environment

Desired Skills (additional):
  • Prior experience with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Marketing and/or outreach experience.
  • Experience with Original cataloging
  • Experience with Corporate library
  • Experience with DoD agency/contractor technical report literature and military/industry standards/specifications.
  • Experience with copyright compliance issues.
  • Basic knowledge of science and engineering reference sources in both printed and electronic versions (IHS, IEEE, DTIC, Compendex, INSPEC).
  • Familiar with intellectual property issues.
  • Prior experience with SirsiDynix EOS

Required Education (including Major):
  • Bachelor’s Degree w/ 2 years relevant experience. Preferred Masters in Library Science or related field w/ relevant experience
