Info Tech Sys Systems Administrator Principal – Senior Mainframe Administrator Description of Duties: 
  • Responsible for providing comprehensive Mainframe Operations support for the Fort Knox Data Center. 
  • Must have experience in z/OS environment, such as memory, processors, devices, and file systems.  
  • Familiar with mainframe operating sophisticated products that enables the best use of the computer’s various resource, and ensure the maximum amount of work is processed as efficiently as possible. 
  • Propagate third party software across multiple mainframe environments. 
  • Provide problem resolution services for third party software. 
  • Provide required data to vendors in order to resolve issues. 
  • Implement vendor supplied fixes. 
  • Must be able to perform optimization and performance testing, provide technical support for incident response. 
  • Must be able to implement and maintain a secure environment in compliance with all IA and DoD STIG guidelines. 
  • Maintain and administer the disaster recover environment. 
  • Install and configure other software, IBM and OEM, through upgrades and application of maintenance using SMP/e and any other vendor prescribed method. 


  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.4 additional years’ related experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. 

  • Possess a SECRET clearance or have the ability to get one. 
  • Must have at least an interim SECRET to begin work on the contract 
  • Experience with Mainframe operating systems in providing stability, security and continuous available for applications running on the mainframe. 
  • Experience with MVS, HMC, CA Roscoe, CA Datacom, software for job scheduling and management 
  • Maintain required software patches 
  • Experience with operating and managing z/VM hypervisor infrastructure and support other operating systems running on the mainframe, such as Linux. 
  • Provide operations services and support 24 hours a day, by 7 days a week (24/7/365) 
  • Respond to all system failures at time of failure and work with support teams or vendors to minimize downtime 
  • Provide technical support to the user community as well as operations, production control and applications programming. To include furnishing solutions to issues arising from processing in the mainframe environment
  • Provide mentoring, advice and skill set knowledge to other members of the contract team as needed. 
  • Maintain z/OS system software through upgrades and application of maintenance using the IBM ServerPac software and SMP/e. 
  • Install, configure and maintain the automation product (OPS/MVS) for controlling the operating system and associated tasks. 
  • Install and configure other software, IBM and OEM, through upgrades and application of maintenance using SMP/e and any other vendor prescribed method. 
  • Facilitate the implementation of DISA STIG requirements. 
  • Monitor the mainframe to keep unlicensed and unauthorized software from executing on the mainframe processor. 
  • Maintain and administer the disaster recovery (COOP) environment. This includes: o Maintaining and configuring the replication of data to the recovery site o The documentation of the procedures to utilize the recovery site o Creation and support of the recovery site hardware IOCP (Input Output Channel Program) o Activation of the recovery site for testing or full COOP o Support end user community with regard to operating within the COOP environment 
  • Completed Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field. Four years of additional general experience
  • Knowledge of ISO/ITIL processes and documentation standards is desired 
  • Must be able to obtain a Security+ Certification and be enrolled into CompTIA’s Continuing Education program before start date 
  • Must have possession of a secondary certification relevant to computing environment Microsoft Certification 
  • Must sign privileged level access agreement 
  • MVS, JES2 commands, IBM 3000 ,TSO, VTS, and SMS 
  • Manage hardware issues with vendors 
  • Create and maintain the IOCP (Input Output Channel Program) for mainframe environments: 
    • COOP 
    • Primary processing site 
  • Administer the HMC as to user management and availability: 
    • Processor 
    • DASD
    • Tape 
  • Monitor the utilization and performance of mainframe computing resources: 
    • Processor 
    • DASD 
    • Tape 
  • Provide analytical reporting utilizing SAS, MXG, and SMF data in regard to adhoc requests concerning the mainframe processing arena 
  • Build and maintain the Image Profiles on the processor HMC (hardware management console)
