Job Description:
The Industrial and Systems Engineering Team in Forest, MS is responsible, accountable, and has authority for production/delivery system design, operations planning, production support, and process improvement. The Forest site of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems relies on IEs to drive initiatives across the facility to improve our ability to support the warfighter in a fast-paced, high demand market for break-through radio frequency and radar systems technology. This role will require a high energy, forward thinking individual willing to make an impact on the site. You work closely with cross-functional roles from assembly to production control. We operate in a creative environment that will enable and train you to identify program goals, remove barriers to execution, and provide innovative solutions to problems. With this job comes a high level of site visibility. This group is responsible for developing excellence. It defines and drives the factory of the future and your solutions will be used to help guide site leadership.

Our interns are valuable members of our team and are trained to work important projects. As a member of the Industrial Engineering team in Forest your projects will primarily fall within the following scope of work:

  • Design new floor layouts for manufacturing workstations, capital equipment, queuing for parts and tools, product flow and utility locations.
  • Develop understanding of and be able to participate in Lean training in order to coach production teams in Lean methodology such as 6S, visual factory, and identification of the 8 wastes.
  • Perform data analytics to populate value stream maps or complete capacity analysis by mining data, consolidating information, and summarizing conclusions.
  • Partnering with the Automation Team to identify and implement system improvement opportunities.

For Multi-Level Intern Requisitions:
This position can be a Salary Grade of G04, G05 or NUG based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.
• G04 (College Junior by Fall 2019) - must have completed 60 hours of college
• G05 (College Senior by Fall 2019) - must have completed 90 hours of college
• NUG (Post- Graduate-Masters-PhD by Fall 2019) - must have an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled or about to enroll in a graduate degree program

Required Skills:

  • Desire to work in a complex manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of data analytics, human factors/ergonomics, and factory design
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be a college Junior, Senior or Graduate student by Fall 2019
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:

  1. Proficiency in AutoCAD or other 2D or 3D CAD or Animation software
  2. Lean or Six Sigma
  3. Discrete-Event Simulation Modeling
  4. Prior relevant internship or work experience
  5. Ability to obtain a secret security clearance

Required Education (including major): Currently pursuing a BS / BA degree from a four-year university and entering as a college Junior or Senior year OR pursuing a MS / MA / PhD by Fall 2019. Must be working towards a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Major, or equivalent technical discipline. Must be appropriate grade level listed above.
