The Tactical Communications Systems Department within the Space and Airborne Systems Center is the primary source of VHF/UHF SATCOM Tactical Radio (TR) equipment to the Army and USAF. This team, based at Fort Wayne, is responsible for the Architecture, Specification, Development and Analysis of Mission Critical equipment in support of over the horizon mission communications. Some aspects of this work are classified.
The System Engineering group’s activities include; 1) developing coherent product specifications from multiple disparate source documents, 2) performing analysis of signals in space, receivers and transmitters, 3) developing simulations and analyzing the performance/impact of fielded equipment, 4) managing the requirements baseline and 5) ensuring all requirements are met.
This position is to plan, lead and conduct system/product RF performance analysis, RF requirements development, RF system/product design, system/product RF development, implementation and RF performance verification of various military ground and airborne communication products.
The candidate must have a working knowledge of legacy military ground and airborne radio products, an understanding of digitally defined RF architectures, RF and signal processing architecture modularity and design reuse, and how to apply a common solution across a family of products. The candidate must have hardware design experience for VHF, UHF and L-band military platform communication systems. The candidate must have a strong working knowledge of RF development and implementation techniques that comply with the applicable military standards and publications. The candidate must have strong analytical skills to make metric based design trade decisions in order to provide the most robust mission solutions. The candidate must have prior experience as a Systems Engineer, performing RF performance analyses, and RF system/product design for military digital RF systems/products. The candidate will be responsible for generating electronic data for RF performance analyses which will include RF model validation and verification. This candidate will be responsible for interfacing with internal and external customers to address system operations, design concepts, and performance for both new and existing capabilities.
