Job Title:Mechanical Engineer
The MechanicalEngineering Directorate(MED) leads inmechanical hardware design,development and production ofradar, sonar, torpedo and combat systemequipment. The MEDusesstate-of-the-art tools,processestechnologyandRaytheon SixSigma principles.

MED's Undersea & Electronics Systems Department, locatedat the Seapower CapabilityCenter (SCC) in Portsmouth,RIis currently seeking an experienced StructuralAnalysisEngineer with a design engineering background to perform structural, dynamicand kinematicanalyses and supporting environmental testing, as well as having experience within a design environment developing high reliability military electronic systems and / or ruggedized cabinetry for various military and government applications.

Job Description:
Thecandidate will perform structural analysis of electronic,mechanical and electromechanicalsystemsusing finiteelement analysis and hand calculations. In addition, the candidate may be called upon to plan, witness and interpretresults ofenvironmental testingsuch asshock,vibration, noise, and thermal extremes.

Working as part of an integrated product team, the position requires broad technical expertise in the mechanical engineering field with knowledge of related disciplines. Candidate should have solid technical skills, an understanding of production needs, and shall be capable of concept development based upon applying principles of mechanical engineering. Design opportunities include electronic enclosures and the packaging of custom and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) electronics within those enclosures, and/or undersea systems such as mine hunting systems, mine neutralization systems, undersea vehicles and undersea sensors.

This position may require some travel between Raytheonandcustomersites.

This positioncan be a Salary Grade G07 or Salary Grade G08 based onthecandidate'squalificationsastheyrelate to the skills,experienceand responsibilityrequirementsfor the position.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in structural analysis with a focus on shock and vibration analysis, or mechanics of materials and numerical methods
  • experience in mechanical design,documentation and/or fabrication of complex military electronic systems
  • Experience with 3D modelling software
  • Experience using structural analysis finite elementsoftware,such asANSYS orNASTRAN
Desired Skills:
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering with a concentrationindynamic structural analysis
  • Familiaritywith MIL-S-901, MIL-STD-167, MIL-STD-810.DDAM Shock Analysis
  • Experience using Microsoft Office productssuch asExcel, PowerPoint,and Word
  • Ability to effectivelyworkon multiple taskswithchanging prioritiesand interruptions
  • Broad based hardware engineering background
  • Experience on DoD programs
  • Experience with PTC CREO and PDM
  • Experience with GD&T
  • Experience managing programs using EVMS (Earned Value Management System)
  • Task leadership and task planning experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Required Education (including Major):
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline (STEM)

Clearance Requirements:
Ability to obtain a DODSecret Security Clearance.
