About Electricity Transmission

Electricity Transmission is a business at the heart of the UK energy industry. Our contribution to the overall National Grid business, and the continued investment in electricity transmission, means our role is vital.

 

We are looking for experienced Application Design capabilities to complement our existing engineering capability. The energy landscape in which National Grid operates is changing.

 

Part of these changes will include novel types of future connections to our system. This means that we have new opportunities to recruit forward thinking and innovative individuals with Application Design experience in the power sector (or relevant transferrable engineering experience) through several roles and across three departments. This will be key for us to develop engineering solutions that will deliver value for electricity consumers, National Grid’s customers and the wider Energy Sector.

Remuneration & Benefits

A competitive salary between £35,000 – £50,000 per annum dependent on experience.

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 10%. About The Roles

We have vacancies across three separate departments within National Grid, the attributes we require are very similar. The successful candidate will have a customer-centric approach to delivering a high-quality output with attention to detail. Experience of stakeholder management including business writing and communication skills and experience of problem solving and an appetite for continuous improvement including management of time, cost, safety and risk.

 

As part of a team of diverse technical disciplines, the successful candidate will utilise their technical knowledge and exerience to facilitate connection solutions for our customers covering the pre-construction stages of projects to connect Generation, Demand, Storage and Interconnectors to the Electricity Transmission System.

 

Application Design - Product Development Engineer

 

  • You will identify new opportunities for National Grid’s Electricity Transmission business, and develop them into tangible products that are sutiable and attractive to our customers. Communicating the ‘art of the possible’ to stakeholders, successful applicants will be at the forefront of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s future business opportunity creation; undertaking product design, development and engineering activities that convert opportunities into prototype innovative and ‘first time’ engineering solutions that align to the needs of our customer base. 
  • The Product Development Engineer will also develop considered benefits cases that are technically and economically viable and articulate risk, whilst supporting adoption of new products into our business to maximise their impact.

 

 

Application Design - Feasibility Engineer

 

  • As part of the Customer facing multi-disciplined team the succesful candidate will develop and cost initial proposals for customer connection projects, lead technical and commercial feasibility studies in the early development stages of the connection project.
  • The Feasibility Engineer will undertake engineering works to ensure safe delivery, fit for purpose, least cost solutions are prepared in accordance with the early project phase that deliver the National Grid’s regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments.

 

 

Application Design - Investment Engineer

 

  • The succesful candidate will lead a multi-disciplined investment team in the optioneering and development, sanction and closure of a portfolio of complex customer connection projects from the later development stages of the connection project
  • The Investment Engineer will undertake the required site and condition assessments, and support the consenting, cost estimation, tendering support, programme risk mitigation and innovation activities to enable the delivery vehicle to implement the solution on site ensuring least cost, fit for purpose and safe delivery solutions are prepared in accordance with the Investment Process that deliver the business’s regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in Engineering or Numerate discipline, or equivalent engineering experience
  • Membership of relevant professional body
