Primary purpose of this position is to augment Aeromedical Evacuation Registry team to enable clinical data abstraction. Utilize clinical knowledge to interpret and transcribe electronic and paper documentation into proprietary database. Interface with researchers and other abstractor staff to understand registry design and reporting requirements. Incumbent will perform other duties and assignments as required.

  • Compile and enter data from multiple data sources, requiring familiarity with DoD electronic military health record databases such as the Transportation Command Regulation and Command & Control System, the Theater Medical Data Store, or and the DoD Trauma Registry.
  • Assure confidentiality of documents, communications and study data, and familiarity with research processes, including Institutional Review Board and Data Use Agreement approvals. Compliance with HIPAA.
  • Interface with the Clinical Nurse for guidance and direction to ensure the accurate systematic collection, aggregation, and coding of patient data to include demographic, incident, treatment, and outcome of data for patients throughout the En Route Care continuum.
  • Support principal investigators of the Aeromedical Research division through data extraction/collection, coding evaluation, and quality assurance.


Required Education/Experience _:_

Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of clinical patient care experience in military/VA treatment facilities, OR Associate's Degree with 5 years clinical patient care experience in military/VA treatment facilities.

Familiar with military health record systems (AHLTA, CHCS, TMDS, Essentris, etc).

Required Skills/Training:

Strong organizational, reading comprehension, and communication skills.

Trained/licensed military medical technician, paramedic, or licensed practical nurse.

Must be able to attain Department of Defense background check

Ability to work well and flexibly (i.e., autonomously) in small teams.

Desired Education, Experience, Skills or Tr a ining _:_

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years clinical experience.

Contingency Patient staging and/or Aeromedical Evacuation experience highly desired.

Experience working in the government, defense, and Air Force research environments highly preferred.

Understanding of healthcare environment and military operations highly preferred.
