Description:Lockheed Martin Energy Storage is commercializing a new class of flow battery technology for low-cost grid-scale energy storage based on novel aqueous electrolyte solutions. We are seeking a seasoned professional from the chemicals, pharmaceutical, or biotech industries to lead the development of quality and analytical functions that support the battery electrolyte development and commercialization. The successful candidate will interface with a staff of senior analytical chemists, technicians, battery scientists, engineers, chemicals manufacturing supply chain partners, and senior program management to ensure that the battery electrolyte under development and in the field meets or exceeds product specification. The individual will lead the development and execution of Quality Assurance elements in support of product development and product commercialization. In addition, the individual will work with the broader technical staff to support battery electrolyte quality control goals, as well as re-evaluate and redefine the battery electrolyte product specification, as required. The individual must be flexible, able to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, and able to work as a leader and/or a member of teams and independently. Experience in effectively directing junior team members is expected.

Our Lockheed Martin AES site is located somewhat close to the Alewife Station which is a major MBTA transit hub with access to the Red Line with service to Boston and bus lines with service to surrounding neighborhoods and adjacent communities. Cape Cod is less than 90 minutes to the southeast. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are 2.5 hours to the north. Providence, RI is about 2 hours to the southwest. Montreal is about 5 hours to the northwest.
Basic Qualifications:
Masters degree in a field of chemistry with at least 7 years of experience.

Demonstrated experience in developing quality systems to support bringing new chemical products to market

Firm understanding of processes that enable chemical product quality control

Working knowledge of state-of-the-art analytical chemistry techniques (e.g. ICP, HPLC, GC, UV/vis spectroscopy)

Experience in effectively directing junior team members and communicating with management

Experience working with and validating supplier chemical products, chemical test methodology, and adequacy test facilities
Desired Skills:
Masters degree in Analytical Chemistry and at least 7 years of experience.

Experience (4+ years) in industrial chemical product development and quality control

Experience in working with application engineers to define chemical product specification

Experience in developing processes to validate analytical chemistry methods that support product specification

Experience in developing processes and procedures for validation, verification, and periodic monitoring of chemical products to ensure that it meets customer specification

Experience with collection and analysis of chemistry data for the purposes of understanding the limitations of the chemistry, performing long-term degradation studies, and working to identify improvement opportunities.
