About the Role

Within this role, you will develop and use assessment principles and strategy to deliver the most economic solution for the procurement of balancing services. Reducing overall costs of System Operation.  You will also have accountability for:

  • Responsibility for the economic assessment of Short Term Operating Reserve, Firm Frequency Response, Fast Reserve, DTU, Constraint Management and other services
  • Development of ongoing commercial strategy for the procurement of services
  • Providing supporting information for meetings with external providers
  • Supporting contract negotiations
  • Supporting the development of new balancing services
  • Producing reports, webinars and market information to enable market facilitation of balancing services provision
  • Publishing information required for balancing services on the National Grid website for use by the service providers in the external market

What you'll Get

You will receive a competitive salary between £40,000 - £50,000, dependant on experience.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 10%. About You

A degree in an engineering, science, economic or other numerate discipline is required.  You will also have:

 

  • Proven analytical skills and a good level of expertise in MS ACCESS and Excel
  • A good understanding of the GB electricity trading arrangements would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial assessments, ideally of tendered services in the power or similar industries OR an in-depth knowledge of ancillary and Balancing Services and the requirement for them
  • Excellent team working skills, and the drive and desire to improve processes
