About the Role

Within this role, you will provide technical support across Network Access Planning for the System Operator activities associated with the commissioning and decommissioning of assets on the GB transmission network as part of the Study Development and Schemes team.  You will also:


  • Interpret detailed operation diagrams to update asset changes in network diagrams which are referenced by Power System Engineers in Network Access Planning.
  • Support Power System Engineers in Network Access Planning by ensuring the offline transmission analysis tool (OLTA) used to model and study the transmission network accurately reflects the changes to the network when assets are commissioned or decommissioned.
  • Create and update commissioning records to reflect data submissions for all GB schemes and insert links for effective management of date changes.
  • Receive and process data submissions from Scottish Transmission Owners for commissioning assets onto the transmission system to ensure they are compliant with their statutory obligations.
  • Check accuracy of data for new, modified and removed transmission assets.
  • Devise and manage a process to align data provision for various functions within Network Access Planning.
  • Collate an annual list of completed schemes for consolidation in the real time energy management system (iEMS) and the off-line analysis model (OLTA)
  • Interface with Network Access Planning and the control room to ensure the correct documentation is in place to allow assets to be commissioned or decommissioned onto the transmission network.

You will receive a competitive salary between £30,000 - £35,000 dependant on experience.

About You

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths, English and Science are essential.  You will also have:

  • Excellent IT skills for data management and process improvement
  • Good organisational skills for time management and prioritisation
  • Ability to interpret engineering technical diagrams and data.
  • Proven experience of internal and external customer / stakeholder co-ordination management
  • An appreciation and knowledge of the UK Electricity Transmission system would be an advantage.
  • An appreciation of commissioning and decommissioning assets on a network would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of OLTA or other network analysis packages would be an advantage.
