Materials Manager

What you will do
Oversees activities related to the purchase of material, material control, inventory control, shipping/receiving, stores and facilities functions. Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures and material control systems. Ensures materials are ordered and are in stock to meet company requirements while maintaining acceptable inventory levels. Develops material schedules and coordinates the efficient movement of material with purchasing, production and engineering. Reviews and plans requirements for purchasing materials. Key areas of accountability include hands-on participation in department activities, planning, budgeting, purchasing, resource management, scheduling, training, supplier management, hiring and mentoring the team, and implementation of best practices. Continuously improves supply chain activities to reduce costs while improving customer satisfaction levels.

Responsibilities will include
Establish and achieve departmental goals and objectives that provide world-class materials performance to the organization.
Establish and manage the department budget and strategic planning process.
Develop and own relationships with suppliers to support Tecanâ??s business goals.
Select, develop and evaluate team.
Establish, track and report on departmental KPIâ??s.
Analyze reports, measurements and external benchmarks to identify opportunities for improvement.
Responsible for accuracy of data in ERP system (purchasing, shipping/receiving, inventory movement transactions.)
As a key Process Owner, lead a cross-functional team in the effective implementation and continual improvement of the process.
Maintain adequate and appropriate documentation and records for all transactions to be in compliance with applicable FDA, ISO and QMS requirements.

Ensure material availability as required to support production schedule and achieve on time customer delivery.
Manage shortages and provide feedback to Head of Operations and Master Scheduler on cases critical to achieving on-time delivery performance.

Oversees supplier selection process to ensure Tecanâ??s quality standards can be met and maintained.
Monitors supplier performance.
Ensure buyers are buying at the optimal quantity and price.
Ensure timely receipt of materials to support the production schedule and manage material supply chain within budgeted inventory levels.
Resolve material shortages escalated by the purchasing group.
Manage and direct procurement activities.
Negotiate and manage supplier agreements to protect Tecanâ??s interests.
Implement collaborative replenishment programs with key suppliers and drive continuous improvement to ensure cost effectiveness.

Ensure on-time delivery targets and quality standards are achieved.
Monitor inventory levels, product movement (including FIFO), and control/isolate non-conforming product.
Optimize overall inventory value.
Coordinate with finance on matters involving inventory carrying costs.
Work with suppliers and employees to eliminate waste and damage to raw materials.
Create procedures and reporting for the effective management of inventory.
Provide cost effective, efficient, and traceable movement of company products both in-bound and out-bound.
Resolve import and export issues.

Implement and administer facility policies and procedures to ensure adequate controls of inventory and appropriate safety measures in accordance with OSHA requirements and company policies are in place.
Responsible for managing building maintenance and ensuring that the facility is well maintained.
Assist in the coordination of building space allocation and layout and facility expansion
Actively participate in safety committee.

What you bring along
BA/BS degree in business administration, material management, accounting, or similar discipline.
MS/MBA in Operations Management, Finance or Business a plus.
10+ years of experience in materials management, including purchasing, inventory, and planning, with 4+ in a management role.
Experience working in an ISO 9001, ISO 13485 or QSR manufacturing environment or similar is required.
A broad range of management skills is required with particular emphasis on leadership, management, motivation, communication, and planning.
User Experience and Proficiency with MRP systems, SAP preferred.
Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Excellent planning, analytical, communication, and negotiation skills are required.
Ability to change direction and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis.
Management style that complements Tecanâ??s culture of integrity throughout all areas of internal and external business activity.
Lean experience a plus.
