Senior Engineering Technician


We have an immediate opening for an Engineering Technician 2/3 to support the development, fabrication, documentation, installation, and test of various electronic, mechanical, and optical equipment for a ground network of Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) systems. Day to day efforts will be conducted at the KBRwyle Goddard Corporate offices as well as the Goddard Space Flight Center.

The individual, with minimal guidance, will be responsible for supporting all activities associated with the build Satellite Laser Ranging ground systems. This is a hands-on position with duties ranging from the mechanical chassis design/layout/fabrication/build, electrical and electronic chassis layout design/fabrication/build, mechanical systems fabrication and build, electronic equipment rack&stack/installation/test; electronic equipment verification; stuffing of printed circuit boards; assemble a wide variety of connectors, cables, wiring harnesses; electronic and mechanical equipment repair and maintenance; mechanical and electrical/electronic installation of laser subsystems; installation of telescope subsystems; support of the SLR facilities and other duties as assigned. Individual should be able to follow as well as develop electronic and mechanical test/verification procedures and document results. Individual must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings, electronic wiring diagrams and facilities drawings. Must have an understanding of electro-static discharge requirements for electronic components and equipment. Because of the nature of Satellite Laser Ranging operations support activities may include some nighttime and weekend periods.

General description includes:

Performs a variety of engineering work in the development of an operable system capable of meeting requirements within imposed constraints including mass, cost and schedule.

Uses standard procedures in carrying out assignments associated with research, design, fabrication and test specific parts, components, interfaces for electronic and mechanical systems.

Coordinates with other technical personnel in solving technical problems, fabricating equipment, gathering information, formulating plans, designs, cost estimates and specifications.

Provides assistance to higher level engineers in most of the detail work and translates technical guidance and data received into usable information applicable to the particular assignment.

May serve as company representative advising customer and contractor personnel on technical requirements for products or services, support equipment and electronic equipment installation.

Assists in compiling and preparing technical reports and proposals.

May participate as a team member of multiple teams; may act as primary intra-organizational liaison.

Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: AS Degree or equivalent plus:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience as well as experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Desired experience with computer aided design software: AutoCAD, P-CAD, SOLIDWORKS, etc.

Travel – This position will involve both domestic and international travel for preparation and installation of SLR systems. Ability to obtain and keep a passport is required along with other travel requirements relevant to US regulations and regulations of countries to be entered for work.
