SoBran is seeking a Facility Support Specialist II (Driver) to serve at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland.

OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Facility Support Specialist II (Driver) for the WRAIR/NMRC, Animal Care Project. Responsible for daily receipt and delivery to include but not limited to animals, cages, equipment, mail, and other supplies relative to day to day WRAIR operations. Responsible for support of all activities required proper care and maintenance of research animals maintained in the WRAIR facilities. All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, work between the core hours of 7:00 am and 4 pm M-F. You will be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. The weekend hours are from 7 am to 12:00 pm. In addition you will be expected to work extra hours during emergency situations or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed.


Primary duties may include the following (Job descriptions are subject to change to reflect duties and responsibilities.):

Report directly to Project Management.
Understand and follow appropriate SOPs, safety procedures, and quality assurance guide­lines.
Ensure deliveries (both animal and supplies) intra and extra the WRAIR/NMRC facilities are conducted IAW with SOPs, federal regulations involving transportation of live animals and the Animal Welfare Act.
Assure that materials and supplies are delivered to proper location/facilities in an efficient/effective manner; assist other contractor personnel in acceptance of all animal, supplies and equipment shipments.
Load and off-load of all animals, supplies, and materials.
Movement of materials and equipment intra facility shall be by handcarts and hand-carrying.
Complete the tracking log for all deliveries.
Represent yourself and the contract with a professional and positive attitude.Deal with customers in a polite and courteous manner.Communicate clearly and effectively with management and customers.
Maintain and update vehicle sign out logs to include day, time, and mileage; report mileage for all assigned vehicles to the ROB on the 1st and the 15th of each month.
Perform safety checks before use of vehicles; keeping vehicles clean inside and out (including sanitizing of animal transport vehicles when necessary); keeping fuel and fluid levels full; and operating the vehicle in a safe manner at all times.
Coordinate with the COR designee, vehicle service work required within two weeks for routine maintenance and immediately for all remedial service; follow maintenance schedules.
Keep maintenance records for all vehicles leased and owned by the Division of Veterinary Medicine.
Ensure that facility logs are signed in and out when present at each facility.
Assist in maintaining inventories of all vehicle supplies and materials located in storage areas
Rotate the use of the vehicles to prolong the life of the vehicles and to meet GSA mileage requirements.
Ensure that the dock, truck, vehicle parking area and receiving area is clean and free of debris at all times; maintain clean and organized work and personal areas.
Report all equipment malfunctions, failures, and repair needs to supervisory staff.
Report any abnormal conditions of the animal facility or immediate vicinity to supervisory staff.
Assist in sanitation and decontamination in all areas of the facility.
When daily motor vehicle operator duties are completed, report to management for other assignments.
Provide animal care support as directed by management; cross-trained in the duties of an animal caretaker and cage-wash technician.
Off post trips will be within a one hundred fifty (150) mile radius of the WRAIR/NMRC.
Use of government vehicles only for support of VSP operations, and use of government credit cards, EZ-Pass, etc. only for operation of these vehicles.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid state driverâ??s class D license and have a safe driving record with absolutely no history of DWI. Must have experience driving a car, van, and a large box truck (up to 5 ton); preferred 2 years of experience in a laboratory animal facility and knowledge of WRAIR and off site locations. Must have the ability to work in and around water and be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds over their heads in order to be able to help load and off-load trucks and cargo vans. Should have sufficient knowledge of different animal species husbandry requirements to perform all required duties. Must possess the physical strength, dexterity and endurance to lift, pull, push and handle cages, racks, large pieces of miscellaneous equipment, feed & bedding bags and other materials and equipment normally found in a research facility. Some knowledge of disinfectant use and operating knowledge of pallet jacks, cage washers, conveyer belts and high pressure & steam cleaning devises. Ability and stamina to work all day standing to perform duties in an area that is noisy and can have relatively high ambient temperature and humidity or seasonal outdoor temperature extremes. Must attain and maintain access to work place as set forth by WRAIR personnel, access and security requirements. Maintain all contract requirements to include quality of work, occupational health (e.g., vaccinations) and training.
