Description:The successful candidate will be deployed to the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program working as an Ordnance Design Engineer. Job duties include responsibility for the design, manufacture, procurement, and test for ordnance components used for initiation, separation, and destruct systems; also includes mechanism ordnance components and assemblies.
In this role, you will have technical ownership of your product (CPE) and will advocate for your team of approximately 7 engineers. Your scope of responsibility will include the technical management and recommendation of multiple ordnance components, throughout various phases of the product life-cycle (qualification, production, service support, aging, etc.). Strong collaboration skills, that can accommodate our various suppliers and their differing requirements will be key.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to provide guidance and review of both technical and programmatic decisions, as they relate to the ordnance components for FBM. You will be a role model for your group, representing Ordnance with our Navy partner and with LM leadership, with many opportunities for career development along the way.
As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to: lead development of technical requirements, advocate for and secure funding, manage requalification efforts, collaborate with subcontract management to provide technical support, participate in new business trade studies, provide and participate in mentorship opportunities and professional development, all while serving as the primary technical interface to FBM management, systems engineering, quality, and our Navy counterparts.
The selected candidate will travel on occasion to SCF/SVL for a period of time, however permanent assignment will be Denver.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline
•Minimum 5 years of experience with design, qualification, and/or integration of hardware components
•Minimum 3 years of experience as a hardware owner (Certified Principal Engineer: CPE or Subject Matter Expert: SME)
•Any combination of experience in: engineering project management, supplier management, annual budget proposals, technical evaluations, tracking and development of cost/schedule.
•Exposure to or participation with failure investigations, root cause analysis, and/or corrective action disposition
•Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
• Missile and/or aerospace related education or experience
•Experience with FBM processes and products
•Experience with I-DEAS or Pro-E/CREO
•Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T)
•Material Review Board Certification
•Risk and opportunity experience with an understanding of continuous improvement concepts
• Understanding in subcontract /project management of sub-tier suppliers
• Familiarity with industry standards for design and testing of ordnance devices
• Knowledge in design, development and manufacture of ordnance components and assemblies.
