SAIC is seeking a Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Synthetic Cognition Systems/Software Engineer to join the National Security Customer Group (NSCG) in our Chantilly, VA office. NSCG provides specialized engineering, analysis and operations support to a variety of Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. We support the generation after next of national security-related systems based in space, in the air and on the ground. 

Unique Duties:

Research and understand key technology areas and be able to advise customers on courses of action.

Conduct research in the following areas of artificial intelligence:

Cognitive computing architectures and technologies (e.g. deep learning, neural nets)

Human Computer Interaction (e.g. HMI, Visualization)

Plan, participate, and facilitate community forums in the key focus areas stated above.

Common Duties:

Build working prototypes of cognitive capabilities to facilitate research experimentation

Recognize and document program dependencies (internal and external) and manage them to enable mission success.

Coordinate planning efforts among senior management and support personnel, contracts and finance staff.

Provide support to acquisition, source selection and programmatic processes

Provide technical review and assessment of ongoing development activities and technical evaluation of proposals of contractors and government labs.

Coordinate and facilitate technical exchange meetings between various organizations.

Prepare and update statements of work (SOW) to support capability acquisition.

Provide technical oversight and recommendations to management for all programmatic/engineering data submitted by contractors.

Prepare documentation for the acceptance of funding from and to various organizations.

Provide guidance on schedules and applicable milestones.

Write briefings, point papers, and community content to communicate the plans and goals of the organization.

Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status and brief management as required.

Assist in program and acquisition planning encompassing evolving R&D activities, campaigns, roadmaps, and external elements.

Facilitate and execute activities on behalf of management.

Work with various research & development organizational elements to promote Technology Readiness Level (TRL) advancement.


  • Active TS/SCI with poly
  • BS or MS in an engineering or science discipline with 9+ years experience
  • Software development experience in cloud services using computer languages such as JAVA, Python, XML
  • A solid working understanding of machine learning algorithms
  • Software development experience in cloud services, computer languages such as JAVA and XML, and a solid working understanding of machine learning algorithms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and environment
  • Effective interpersonal skills and strong briefing and writing skills


Desired Qualifications


  • Systems engineering experience focused on R&D activities
  • Acquisition SETA experience
  • Experience in synthetic cognition, artificial intelligence and/or machine learning issues & developments
  • Understanding of ground processing & data analytics (data science)
  • Experience using Amazon Web Services
