SoBran is seeking a Research Support Specialist II to serve at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Research Support Specialist II for the NIH, Animal Care Project. These responsibilities include all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of on-site animals.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

*All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00 am depart at 3:30 pm M-F. You will be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. The weekend hours are from 7 am to 3:30 pm. (no more than 8 hours per day). In addition you will be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed.

Primary duties may include the following:

Understand and follow all SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards.
Provides research technical support to Dr. Harbison lab.
Duties include providing technical services (such as tail snips, tissue collection, timed mating�?�¢�?�?�?�?s, etc.)
Provide colony management oversight of animals assigned to Dr. Harbison�?�¢�?�?�?�?s lab.
Use a mouse colony database program to manage the colony and track data.
Safely and correctly handle and restrain animals for observation and/or minor procedures.
Serve as liaison for mouse imports, exports, re-derivations, cryo-preservation with NHLBI shipping coordinators.
Participate in weekly lab meeting.
Always think safety first when performing daily duties.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Background Requirements:

B.S. degree in biology, animal science, or similar discipline preferred.
Experience working with mice in biomedical research.
Possesses required knowledge to perform in a specialized area in lead role; detail-oriented.
Fundamental knowledge of medical terminology.
