Position Description and Responsibilities: This Mid-Level position provides training and real-time support to the International Space Station (ISS) Operations within the NASA JSC Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) as a Robotics flight controller and/or instructor. The robotics flight control role consists of developing robotic arm trajectories, procedure development and verification, mission development, and support of real time, on console operations of flight controller commanded and astronaut controlled robotic operations. Robotics Instructors provide skills training to astronauts, flight controllers, and other instructors in classroom, single systems trainer, integrated simulation, and remote/on board ISS environments. To support these tasks, employees progress through advancing levels of Mission Control Center flight controller and instructor certifications via assigned training flows. Work and Experience Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mathematics, Sciences, or Engineering (ABET) plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience. Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real-time operations is essential. Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate a wide range of tasks. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to progress through certifications. Candidate must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real-time and fast-paced operational environment. Candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment that requires him/her to work effectively both alone or as part of a team. Ability to support shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays) is required. Candidate may be required to pass a standard flight controller physical examination. Candidate must be able to support infrequent travel domestically or internationally. Russian, Japanese, or European language skills are a plus.
