Description

This position is for a LAN Technician (LNA) with SAIC at NASA Ames Research Center. This position includes direct hands on with configuring layer 2 switches, installing network gear, troubleshooting different types of network issues, configuring and installing wireless devices and other operational duties while adhering to strict safety guidelines.

 

Potential daily activities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Incident management (Remedy)

    • Troubleshoot Network Ports

    • Troubleshoot Wireless connectivity issues

    • Troubleshoot Wireless Device issues

    • Troubleshoot phone issues

    • Troubleshoot Switch issues

  • Change request management (Remedy)

    • Add/Move Network Ports (Port activations)

    • Add/Move Phones

    • Install Layer 2 switches

    • Install Wireless AP/AM

  • Network Monitoring

    • Spectrum

  • VoIP

    • Configure and install new phones

    • Trouble shoot phones

  • Running cables

    • Assist Cable Plant with installing new stations

  • Assist Network Engineering

    • Building out new switch racks

    • Replacing faulty layer 2/3 devices

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience and 2 years of related experience.

  • Candidate should be familiar with Cisco and Juniper products

  • Operationally familiar with wireless infrastructures preferable Aruba product

  • Candidate should have excellent communication and written skill

  • Candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Visio

  • Working knowledge of Local Area Networks

  • Proficient in EIA/TIA 568A and 568B wiring standard

  • Basic troubleshooting skills

Desired:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Basic system administration for Windows and Mac

  • CCNA or better/equivalent certification

  • Basic Network troubleshooting skills

  • Knowledge of VPN
