Do you have a passion for working on emerging technologies?

Space is looking for hardworking, highly motivated Communication Systems engineers and product development engineers to own the development and build of the next generation of Laser Communication Payloads and Systems. As an Engineer you will work closely with our Payload system architects to understand key requirements and mature program solutions. Specific responsibilities include:

•You will develop design concepts and technical baselines for laser communications payloads

•System product development leadership

•Development of system architecture

•Leadership of multi-functional development teams

•Developing payload subsystem-level requirements and interface definitions

•You will conduct payload design trades, including potential source identification/selection through formal Requests for Information (RFI)

•Perform analysis and decompose system level performance requirements to verifiable allocated subsystems/components requirement.

•You will perform analysis to size laser communication links, size communication network, acquisition and tracking and computing resources needed to implement the functionality specified to the subsystem.

•Crafting technology maturation and risk reduction plans for critical payload elements satellite subsystems

•Supporting proposal development activities for objective payload systems

•This position may require domestic travel as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

Typically has 12 - 20 years of professional experience.

Basic Qualifications:
•Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related discipline
•Ability to develop and analyze technical requirements, perform trade studies, conduct major design reviews (e.g. PDR Preliminary Design Review and/or CDR Critical Design Review) and allocate functions down to subsystems and hardware/software
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to interact effectively with customers, management, and peers. Ability to write technical sections of customer RFIs or proposals, including developing presentations to describe the technical approach in a clear manner.
•Proficiency in relevant analytical tools (e.g., MATLAB, Zemax)
Desired Skills:
•Experience in development and delivery of space laser communication systems
•Experience with satellite communications technologies and waveforms
•Working knowledge of current CCSDS (Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems) standards and fiber optic communication data protocols
•NASA laser communication terminals
•Photonic devices
•Experience with optical modems, fiber amplifiers and gimbaled mechanisms
•Experience developing Analog/Digital interfaces
•Experience with full-life cycle of ASIC/FGPA development
•Doors, Stk (Systems Tool Kit) or related tools
•Master’s EE, Computer Science, or related field
•US DoD Secret clearance or Top Secret / SCI
