Description:Lockheed Martin Energy Storage is commercializing a new flow battery technology for low-cost, grid-scale energy storage to support renewable energy integration and grid modernization. The flow battery is based on a novel battery chemistry comprising aqueous metal-ligand coordination compounds. We are seeking a Project Engineer to assist with ongoing battery chemical electrolyte characterization research, quality control methodology development, and chemical engineering process development and scaleup.

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in chemical product development and/or chemical process engineering, with familiarity in laboratory and/or pilot-scale environments. The candidate will be adept in the planning and management of chemistry and chemical process engineering development projects, including decomposition of complex projects into manageable workstreams, resource prioritization, and critical path analysis. Management of both in-house and third party supplier efforts, with supporting international travel, will be required. Flexibility and adaptability in coordination of the work of extremely high performing junior and senior-level scientists and chemical process engineers is required. The individual must be able to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, and able to work independently and as part of a team. The ability to clearly communicate with both staff and management is highly desired.

Our Lockheed Martin AES site is located somewhat close to the Alewife Station which is a major MBTA transit hub with access to the Red Line with service to Boston and bus lines with service to surrounding neighborhoods and adjacent communities. Cape Cod is less than 90 minutes to the southeast. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are 2.5 hours to the north. Providence, RI is about 2 hours to the southwest. Montreal is about 5 hours to the northwest.
Basic Qualifications:
-BS in chemistry or a field of engineering with 5 years professional experience. Engineering MS or chemistry PhD may be substituted for 2 years of work experience.
-Experience in project planning and management in a chemical or engineering research or product development environment.
-Able to travel (domestic and international) up to 20%.
Desired Skills:
-Experience (5+ years) in chemical product development and/or chemical process engineering and scaleup.
-Experience in chemical manufacturing and/or scaleup with third party contract organizations to deliver key program-level milestones with high visibility.
-Significant experience with project management software (eg Microsoft Project or similar) and Earned Value Management methodology.
-Familiarity with chemical product specifications, analytical, and quality control methodology.
-Familiarity with GMP methodology.
