Job Description:

SAIC is currently in need for a Senior Systems Engineer to support the Space Systems Mission Areas in the Space Protection area. This includes space mission protection architectures, strategies, and program execution. The systems engineer will be responsible for helping develop initial systems architecture, developing requirements for payload/sensor, and leading the design and build efforts.

Required Skills:

The systems engineer needs to possess the following systems engineering work attributes:

10+ years of relevant engineering experience in system level design and architecture for select payloads and sensors

Strong experience in space development system life cycle events

Must have full experience in decomposing capabilities into core set of system functionality needed to support identified capabilities

Must have experience in requirements development at the payload/sensor level and performing the necessary allocation to the lower subsystems/products

Must have an understanding of spacecraft integration, interface/control electronics, control system design, line of sight; detailed knowledge of space payloads and missions to understand how changes in one part of a system impact the rest of the payload/sensor/spacecraft; and system and subsystem activation, testing, and troubleshooting experience.

Experience leading technical teams of systems engineers, hardware engineers, and analysts

Active DoD SSBI and/or TS/SCI security clearance

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Provide technical operations advice to the SSDP/BMC2 Division, leveraging operational space (and other domain) Battle Management, Command and Control (BMC2) experience.

Identify, analyze and provide recommendations regarding potential improvements to space BMC2 operating concepts, capabilities, and tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs).

Employ facets of the Joint Operational Planning Process to conduct detailed planning to fully develop options, identify resources, and identify and mitigate operational risk.

Provide recommendations to improve current operational processes.

Evaluate development of planning and operations tools that help define what actions and decisions need to be made to successfully execute COAs—to include branches and sequels based on triggers

Monitor and assess lessons learned from wargames, exercises and space protection operational engagement to further inform BMC2 concept, capability and TTP development

Present leadership with viable options to integrate products into operational community Mandatory


TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

Operating space-domain, and related, capabilities that deliver effects to warfighters o Understanding of the space-based DoD and NRO systems and operations

Applying analytical problem-solving related to tactical, operational and strategic warfare planning and execution

Familiarity with operational C2 systems, which include Space-based sensors and sensor-to-shooter timelines

Knowledge, understanding and experience with space control scenarios in exercises and wargames is a plus

Desired Qualifications:

- Master’s Degree in space- related field of study.

Clearance Requirements:

- Active TS (SSBI, with BI within last 5 years) clearance with SCI eligibility and ability to obtain higher level clearances and polygraph
