Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems is seeking a Sr Principal Engineer to support multiple space programs in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will perform mechanical design related tasks for the program and is expected to work with a team of specialized junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers to support the build and test of EO/IR hardware designs. Responsibilities include creating and/or revising assembly instructions, providing build support in conjunction with technicians and other engineering disciplines, as well as design for producibility and manufacturability. Tasks also include the ability to revise and update engineering drawings and CAD models, participate in mechanical design as required. The candidate will be expected to present his or her work for peer reviews. Candidate will be expected to follow established procedures and instructions while working closely with program / functional supervision to ensure the overall design objectives are met. The candidate will need to understand change management and process engineering changes in a product data management tool. This will include creation, rework and changes to the design as the changes occur. Contacts are primarily with the immediate section manager, team lead, project leaders and other personnel (peers) within the applicable program.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry
  • Experience with electro-optical and electro-mechanical program manufacturing operations and processes
  • Working knowledge of commercial CAD software, such as Creo, Solidworks, or Unigraphics and design experience
  • Experience with M/S Office Tools i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Knowledge of DFMA principles
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
  • MCAD Modeling Certificate
  • Expertise of MIL-STD-31000 and ASME standards impacts to Mechanical Design
  • Understanding of Change Management, and processing Engineering Changes in a Product Data Management Tool
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
  • Must have an active DoD Security Clearance to start.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis for drawings
  • Knowledge of modern machining techniques
  • Ability to read and create if necessary detailed engineering drawings and specifications, including understanding of GD&T
  • Environmental test experience
  • Knowledge of Windchill
  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace

Required Education:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Prefer to also have a Master's degree
