AECOM is currently recruiting for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our well established Ground Engineering team of 35 staff in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
We require an ambitious team player of chartered status with several years’ experience in geotechnical fieldwork, desk studies, design and factual and interpretative reporting, and experience in detailed design of earthworks, deep and shallow foundations and retaining structures, in particular for Highway and Rail projects.
Nationally our Ground Engineering team comprises some 190 staff and provides one-stop access to services ranging from project management, feasibility studies, detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision for geotechnical works. We work for leading UK clients including Highways England, Network Rail, Homes England, Local Authorities, as well as for leading contractors and developers and for overseas clients.
Our Chesterfield team supports internal and external clients on a wide variety of projects, but predominantly in road, rail and airport infrastructure, flood alleviation, nuclear power and waste management, commercial and industrial developments, landslip investigation and remediation, and Local Authority projects.
We have an impressive portfolio of regional and national projects including Thames Tideway, Lower Thames Crossing ground investigations, HS2, Mersey Gateway, Hinkley C nuclear power station, M6 21a to 26 Smart motorway, A303 Stonehenge road improvement.
The successful applicant will provide specialist technical support to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget. The role will involve undertaking and managing desk studies, ground investigation planning and direction, interpretation, design and reporting of geotechnical works including slope stability, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and ground improvement.
You will work under the supervision of a senior team leader and must have strong behavioural competencies with respect to client care, collaborative working, responsibility, accuracy and quality of work and management and mentoring of junior staff.
Strong problem solving and inter-personal skills. Works closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
Ensuring that Health and Safety issues are addressed throughout the life of a project.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to write concise technical reports is essential.
Highly numerate with experience of routine design software for data manipulation and geotechnical design.
Capability and experience in numerical modelling using FEM software would be of benefit.
Appreciation of relevant Eurocodes and UK standards and specifications, in particular those of Highways England and Network Rail would be advantageous.
Licensed to drive a vehicle in the UK.
Willing to travel to other offices and sites within the UK if required by work demand.
Potential and desire to progress to a more senior position.
A degree in Civil Engineering and a relevant post graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
Chartered Engineer (preferably MICE).
