Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking an experienced

System Engineer in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will qualify as a Cognizant System Engineer (CSE) for WIPP systems as assigned by the Systems Engineering Manager. Provide real-time support to plant modifications to ensure accuracy to design drawings and other Technical Baseline documents. Perform as-built field verifications of selected structures, systems, components, and drawings that depict the actual plant conditions. Become the technical expert in their respective structures, systems, and components and assist the Design Engineering group in development of Engineering Change Orders. Assist Project Engineering in the implementation of configuration changes to ensure compliance to all established documentation. Become the system expert and maintain system specifications, configuration management, and design documents to ensure compliance with WIPP Documented Safety Analysis and site procedures as appropriate. Candidate will be required to complete training for unescorted and underground access. Must be able to complete Cognizant System Engineer qualification in a timely manner upon assigned system responsibilities. This position requires the ability to perform field work in varied conditions, including indoors and outdoors, surface and underground.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.

  • A professional engineers license may substitute for a Bachelor of Science degree.

  • To be qualified as a Cognizant System Engineer without a Bachelor of Science degree, related experience may substitute for education at a rate of six semester credit hours for each year of experience up to a maximum of 60 credit hours. When combined with experience, completion of technical portions of an engineering , engineering technology, or related science program may substitute for the baccalaureate or associate degree. Successful completion must be determined by a transcript or certification by an accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the US Department of Education. Completion of 80 semester credit hours may be substituted for the baccalaureate requirement, and 43 semester credit hours for the associate degree in technical subjects related to the position.

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience is preferred.

  • One (1) year of nuclear project experience is desired.

  • Related experience in process controls applications.

  • Previous WIPP experience is preferred.
