Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking multiple Engineering Technicians (Mechanical) to provide equipment and system expertise to aid in trouble shooting, repair, assessment analysis, inspection, maintenance, and operation of diverse shipboard mechanical equipment and systems in accordance with engineering specifications. The positions will be located in Norfolk, Virginia.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Support assessments, provide technical assistance during the troubleshooting of failed shipboard mechanical systems.

  2. Perform or coordinate test and evaluation, checkout, certification tasks.

  3. Perform validations/verifications of various shipboard mechanical systems.

  4. Design and write test procedures, critique system test procedures, and assist in the development of upgrades and enhancements.

  5. Implement engineering change instructions.

  6. Investigate system problems and provide white papers on the results of the investigation. Prepare recommendations and solutions on system problems to include alternate testing to verify change.

  7. Train others in the operation and performance of the system(s).

  8. Establish and maintain a filing system, databases and logs as needed for tracking project status.

  9. Direct on-site customer interface for equipment/system installation, testing, survey, fabrication, and other engineering tasks as needed.

  10. Comply with engineering documentation standards, engineering plans, system specifications and test procedures.

  11. Provide technical data and evaluation for components, equipment and systems consistent with engineering plans, layout and contract requirements.

  12. Serve as senior/lead technician and assist in the training of other technicians.

  13. May coordinate and supervise a team of employees for a given job with responsibility for scheduling tasks, monitoring, technical and employee performance.

  14. May support engineers in the development of technical proposal and provide input on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

Minimum Requirements

  • Three to twelve (3-12) years of experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of naval or marine propulsion machinery and auxiliary equipment.

  • Experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, or other mechanical technical data pertaining to the troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and operation of naval or marine propulsion, hull or mechanical equipment and systems.

  • Position may require travel

  • Position requires a Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • General Experience: Desired: Ten (10) years’ experience within the last 20 years in the operation, repair and maintenance of naval or marine propulsion machinery, electrical distribution or ordnance systems. A minimum of four (4) of the years should have been in a position of team leader or coordinator over a subordinate work force involved in the physical maintenance and repair of US Navy mechanical, electrical or electronic equipment and systems.

  • Specialized Experience: Desired: Four (4) years’ experience within the last 10 years with 600 psi or 1200 psi steam propulsion, diesel propulsion or gas turbine propulsion and ancillary equipment.

  • At a minimum two (2) of the years should have been in the administration of the Navy 3-M and supply system, OR

  • At a minimum four (4) of the years should have been in auxiliary and deck machinery

  • The specialized experience should demonstrate the individual’s ability to:

  • Work independently
