Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Civil Engineer 4 to be based in our Salt Lake City, UT office

Perform engineering assignments for civil project development, design, construction implementation of diverse waste management, and complex environmental cleanup project (soil and groundwater). The Salt Lake City office specializes in developing studies, work plans, designs, and construction documents to support the regulatory licensing and implementation of hazardous and radioactive waste remediation projects and landfill projects, both in the US and globally. The position requires a person who has strong analytical, critical thinking skills, and computational abilities as related to developing engineering solutions to support these projects. The selected person will be a contributing key member of the engineering group and scientific group in Salt Lake City. The selected person will be able to independently perform engineering tasks with minimal direction and expected to lead multi-discipline teams to complete projects within schedule and budget.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop design inputs and generate design calculations, specifications, and drawings as related to all aspects of industrial landfills, soil remediation, and waste management.

  • Use CAD 3-D software to develop designs for large-scale earthen projects as related to industrial landfills, soil remediation, and waste management.

  • Responsible for designs, analyses, or design reviews.

  • Proficient in one of the following civil engineering disciplines:

o Water resources design associated with large earthwork projects.

o Geosynthetic materials design as related to earthwork projects.

o Geotechnical engineering.

  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering disciplines to develop drawings, specifications and other requirements.

  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation including design requirements, design reports, and operation and maintenance manuals.

  • Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers.

  • Conduct site visits and evaluate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and procedures.

  • Develop cost estimates, schedules, and budgets for the planning phase, the design phase and the construction phase of projects.

  • Support development of proposals, including scope definition, staff resourcing, scheduling, and costing.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

  • FE in a state supported by NCEES.

  • At least 7 years of job-related experience

  • Pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) license in a state supported by NCEES.

  • Experienced in Industrial Landfill Design.

  • Experienced in design and construction management of regulatory clean-up projects under CERCLA, RCRA, or DOE.

  • Capable of navigating regulatory compliance issues.

  • Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidates can be US Citizen or Non US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Licensed as a PE in any state supported by NCEES.

  • 10 years of job-related experience.

  • Design lead for industrial waste landfill projects and environmental cleanup projects.

  • Working knowledge of radioactive waste disposal facility design and operations.

  • Experienced serving as an Owner’s representative for large heavy construction projects. 40-hr Hazwoper trained with current refresher qualification.
