Raytheon Company’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED)leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Engineering Directorate uses state of the art tools, processes, technology and Raytheon Six Sigma principles.
Raytheon is seeking a talented Multi-Disciplined Manufacturing Engineer to work in Poland providing technical support and expertise specializing in metal finishes and materials but should be efficient in all phases of design, manufacturing and field activities for a family of radar and missile related products. This person will serve as technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing and quality engineering disciplines and participate in supporting operations both within Raytheon facilities and at Raytheon Partners, field and customer locations.
The qualified individual with technical expertise in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering with a background in Paint and Plating Processes will work in Poland to support all phases of design and manufacturing. Duties will include support to Raytheon Partners including design for manufacturability reviews, process selection and definition, supplier assessment and recommendation, failure analysis, inspection, paint and plating procedure development, and training of operators and inspectors. The majority of time support manufacturing operations by performing technical assessments, implementing process and design refinements, with particular focus on monitoring and improving the surface preparation and paint and plating workmanship when applied to different base metals and configurations. Some travel required both domestically and internationally. Position will be based in the southern region of Poland.
This position can be a Salary Grade G08 or Salary G09 based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the positions.
This position will include travel between Warsaw and Stalowa Wola.
Candidate must be bilingual in both Polish and English languages, written and verbal

4+ years of hands-on experience working in a manufacturing environment with related experience in paint finishing and chemical/plating operations
Experience in the area of metal corrosion (detection, monitoring and mitigation)
Experience with industry standards in the area of metal plating (MIL, ASTM and ISO)
Experience in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and other technical material and then translating into practical procedural instructions.
Project management experience including planning, labor estimating, technical reporting and development of new processes/techniques
Experience working in a manufacturing environment where timely responses are needed
Experience in the area of base material surface treatments, cleaning processes, primer, and topcoat mixing, application and curing, powder coating application, development and testing, paint operator training and evaluations, problem solving paint workmanship issues and paint inspection.
Experience as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing and quality organizations
Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications
Working knowledge of European (ISO) Paint Finish Specifications
Working knowledge Commercial and European (ISO) Plating Finishing Specifications
Experience working major technical projects for performance, cost, and schedule.
Basic understanding of surface pretreatment, primer, topcoat application processes
Must be self-motivated and possess good communication skills in both English and Polish languages
Desire and ability to work as a team member is essential
Must be adaptable and willing to work in all project phases from concept and design through manufacturing
Experience working with various metals and alloys, plating chemistry, plating multi-layer system, processes and plating quality evaluation (Chromate conversion coating, anodizing, plating metals such as nickel, gold, copper, tin, tin-lead, cadmium and others)
Practical knowledge of standard manufacturing processes, including but not limited to adhesive bonding, sealing, metal processing, treatment, and finishing operations
Hands-on experience with the application and interpretation of data from analytical methods related to metal plating such as wet chemical analysis (UV/Vis, AA/ICP), electrochemistry and surface analysis (SEM and XPS)
Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to identify root cause and implement appropriate corrective/preventative actions in the paint application manufacturing area.
Experience with failure analysis and reliability assessment tools
Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab and SPC
Experience in training and qualifying operators and inspectors to meet specification requirements.
Testing skills including paint thickness dry film testing, surface profile measurements, adhesion testing, color/gloss verification using gages, etc.
Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical techniques.
Industry certification (example: NACE Coating inspector)
Bachelor of Science Degree (or European equivalent) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Polymer or Materials Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline. Alternatively, multiple years of relevant field experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. (Two years related work experience can substitute for one year of education
