Job Summary

Purpose and Scope:

Performs technical support in such areas as research, design, development, testing; work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment; Engineering Technician 5 performs non-routine and complex assignments responsible for planning and conducting limited scope portions of projects; provides input to procedures development; provides guidance to lower level technicians; reviews work of lower level technicians for technical accuracy.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the coordination, setup, conduct, and reporting of maintenance activities supporting the KSC Vibration Test Laboratory.

  • Responsibilities include operation of computerized control system, instrumentation installation, and collection and reduction of maintenance test data as well as planning for equipment maintenance and upgrade.

  • Support setup, coordination, and conduct of mechanical and dynamic environmental testing efforts.

  • Setup and operate specialized control and data acquisition equipment related to vibration, shock, static load and mass properties testing.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair of test equipment in the Vibration Test Facility including shakers, amplifiers, signal conditioners and computerized control systems.

  • Troubleshoot and calibrate equipment. Equipment includes electro-dynamic shakers, solid-state power amplifiers, instrumentation and signal conditioning. Coordinate with manufacturer to obtain repair support when required.

  • Document and track maintenance activities performed including preparation of test documentation such as logs, checklists, data files and test reports.

  • Revise and update laboratory procedures. Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, safety plans and check lists.

  • Requisition parts, materials, services, and upgrades to support laboratory maintenance and operations.

  • Utilize Maximo work control system to coordinate and document preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

  • Review Engineering Change Proposals for equipment impacts and assist in accomplishing Engineering Change Instructions. Provide support in the development and implementation of facility upgrades.

  • Develop technical/engineering data for Planned Maintenance Systems, technical drawing updates, operating procedures, and maintainability improvements.

  • Establish and maintain a filing system, databases and logs as needed for tracking project status and inventory.

  • Perform equipment/system installation, testing, fabrication and other tasks as needed.

  • Performs other position related duties and responsibilities as directed.

Minimum Requirements

High School or equivalent and Vocational/technical training beyond high school or equivalent experience. Ten (10) years of job-related experience or equivalent required. Good communications and analytical skills. May be required to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified in IPC-J-STD-001 soldering.

Experience in vibration testing with Unholtz Dickie Company vibration equipment.
