Summary:

The AIX/RHEL administrator applies a broad knowledge of systems administration/analysis concepts, practices and procedures.  A successful candidate is competent to work on fairly complex assignments and perform a standard range of AIX/RHEL system administration activities.  The AIX/RHEL administrator generally works under deadlines and is capable of operating with only general supervision. Possess familiarity with varied concepts, standard best business practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 

Responsibilities:

  • Apply best practices where possible or engineer new best practices as appropriate.
  • Analyze new and existing vendor software; install, maintain, and customize vendor software as required.
  • Consult with end users to identify current operational procedures and clarify user objectives.
  • Monitor system and application performance to detect errors; apply testing
  • Support production, test and development hardware platforms by monitoring for issues, troubleshooting issues, and fulfilling end user requests.
  • Support deployment activities and perform software upgrades and deployments
  • Procedures/methodologies (e.g., diagnostic software) and provide interpretation of data.
  • Provide a root-cause analysis for recurring or critical problem
  • Proficiency using personal computer and associated work station/computer-assisted tools, etc.
  • Demonstrate commitment to providing customer-focused quality service.

    Minimum Requirements:

  • A 4-year degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of AIX/RHEL systems administration experience, or equivalent experience
  • Able to partition disks, create logical volumes, create file systems and mount file systems in AIX/Linux environments.
  • Experience with AIX 7.1 and RHEL 6.9 or later, performance monitoring and tuning tools, installation options, problem determination and recovery, and AIX security
  • Experience with IBM Power architectures, X-series and VM server technology.
  • Experience with Live Partition Mobility
  • System partitioning and virtualization utilizing IBM AIX POWER LPAR/DLPAR technology and Virtual IO Server (NPIV, Virtual SCSI, Virtual Ethernet etc).
  • Experience writing and debugging shell scripts in a standard UNIX shell

    Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with NIM and satellite server
  • Experience with AIX/RHEL performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Experience with high availability architectures and concepts (possibly including, but not limited to, HACMP/Power/HA)
  • Experience with enterprise backup/restore architectures and concepts including TSM
  • IBM/Brocade SAN architecture (DS8800, Brocade DCX,EMC)

Education/Certification Requirement:

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline with 5 or more years related professional experience. (Education can be substituted for 9 years of experience).

Clearance:

Minimum Active DoD Secret and DHS suitability

Day, 8am-5pm
