Job Description:
This position is for the Drafting and Design Engineering Lead on Directed Energy or Mobile Range programs. The Engineering Lead also serves as the Section Head for Design, Checking and Drafting and is responsible for leading a group of designers, checkers and drafters reporting to the Engineering Department in Albuquerque.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, train, mentor, staff and professionally develop employees in the Drafting, Checking an Designer roles
  • Oversee the work products of designers, checkers and drafters supporting concept, detailed design, and hardware builds of Directed Energy and Mobile Range products
  • Checking for mechanical and electrical engineering drawings and specifications
  • Review engineering drawings and related documents for simplicity and efficiency in design; completeness, clarity and dimensional accuracy; correctness of materials and properties; conformity to design/drafting standards, design specification; and economy of fabrication and assembly
  • Create improvements of processes, systems or products to influence new designs for producibility and establish strong communication lines between multi-cross functional teams effectively
  • Work closely with mechanical engineering and manufacturing engineering
  • Support the engineering development team from conceptual design phases through preliminary and critical design, build, test and delivery of hardware
Required Skills:
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience
  • Experience with SolidWorks or Creo
  • Experience in detailed design with knowledge of production
  • Thorough understanding and application of principles, practices and standards for creation and preparation of engineering design documentation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry practices and standards and ability to identify and correct design, drawing errors/omissions/deficiencies and recommend corrective actions or improvements
  • Familiarity with the application of documentation specifications such as MIL-DTL-31000, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100 related to design and preparation of technical data packages
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to perform complex tasks such as preparation of tabulated details, large assemblies, castings and other preforms, interface control drawings, modification and retrofit installation drawings and various layouts for design concepts
  • Ability to apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing form controls in accordance with ASME Y14.5M.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite products to include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with Raytheon Product Data Management system (cPDM or Windchill)
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks Product Data Management system (PDM PRO)
  • Familiarity with Industry Standard Specifications (NAS, MIL, MS, etc.)
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) experience
  • Experience with Altium Designer
  • Experience using documentation specifications such as MIL-DTL-31000, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100
  • Knowledge of Raytheon Drafting Standard, Mechanical Engineering Process for documentation checking
  • Background in manufacturing methods/processes and assembly fixtures and gages design
  • Existing Secret clearance
Required Education (including Major):
  • Candidate must have a related University Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience; a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics Is preferred
