Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) has an opening for a Sr. Principal IT Architect. SAS is a leading provider of integrated sensor, communication and electronic warfare systems giving military forces accurate and timely actionable information for the network-centric battlefield. With a workforce of 13,500 and 2018 sales of $6.7 billion, SAS is headquartered in McKinney, Texas, with operations across the U.S. and internationally. The business also has oversight of the Raytheon UK landed company.

Raytheon SAS IT Engineering Solutions is driving a digital transformation in its IT and Engineering organizations. The goal is to increase speed and agility deploying IT solutions across its Engineering organization in of support Mission Area and Program execution. Transformational change enablers including Agile DevOps, SAFe and Agile Project Management are required to keep up with the rapid pace of business growth. The Engineering Solutions organization believes Solutions Architects will play a pivotal role in this transformation.

Job Description:

Based on these driving forces, Raytheon SAS IT Engineering Solutions is looking for Solutions Architects that have a blend of traditional and transformational attributes. In addition to the core responsibilities of current IT Solutions Architects, the transformative Senior Solutions Architect would also have a mix of the following attributes:

  • Combine technical expertise with strong customer communication skills
  • Experience in hardware, software and systems engineering functions
  • Consultative background with the ability to listen to, and diagnose, customer pain points
  • Creativity and entrepreneurial philosophy in implementing new solutions that leverage, and expand upon, SAS IT ES traditional offerings
  • Problem-solving skills combined with cost-sensitivity
  • Passion for unique solutions and the ability to influence, and obtain buy-in for, the solutions internally
  • Ability to work across large IT organizations
Required Skills:
  • Minimum 10+ years of applicable experience developing technical solutions for engineering product development teams demonstrating a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness and a Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong background in architecting and designing solutions
  • Strong technical background with ability to continually evaluate the needs of new and emerging technologies within engineering product development tools and solutions
  • Proven experience in collaborating with customers and developing technology roadmaps to solve critical pain points
  • Experience with modeling language UML or SysML
  • Broad knowledge of technology stacks: Hardware, VMware, Cloud, OS, Middleware, Container, Application, DB, Firewall and Networking
  • Experience with Client/Server and layered application deployment architecture
  • Proven presentation and communication (written and oral) skills; able to communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience of senior business leaders and customers
  • Experience with industry standard architecture frameworks and methods such as TOGAF
  • Ability to assist in strategic planning of new technologies and opportunity pipeline
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices in IT
  • Proven success working within a large multi-disciplined, matrixed team and performing as project technical lead
  • Proven experience in mentoring junior architects in developing customer-facing skills
  • Willingness and ability to quickly expand technical skills, capabilities, and understanding and apply to solution development
  • Ability to obtain required clearance level for position
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
This position requires a U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
