GDIT is seeking a Research Engineer in support of the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease (USAMRIID). Since 1969, USAMRIID has served as the Department of Defense's lead laboratory for medical biological defense research, protecting the warfighter from biological threats and investigating disease outbreaks and threats to public health. This position will support USAMRIID by providing expert-level mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering support by performing aerosol exposures and facilitating the design and maintenance of aerosol exposure equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Generate, characterize and sample biological aerosols to support pathogenesis and medical countermeasure studies against biothreat agents. This shall include animal plethysmography, aerosol supervision and assisting; attendance is required at scheduled trainings provided by qualified division staff. All laboratory tasks shall be conducted under the guidance of a study Principal Investigator and under the authority of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and in compliance with GLP standards.
  • Conduct studies in a BSL-2, BSL-3, or BSL-4 laboratory environment
  • Assist with SOP writing, revision and review to meet GLP requirements
  • Assemble, maintain and troubleshoot aerosol systems to support medical countermeasure studies
  • Record and document all equipment maintenance IAW USAMRIID SOPs and in compliance with GLP standards. Calibrate, validate and certify a variety of systems
  • Perform and supervise biological decontamination procedures for Class III biosafety cabinets post-aerosol
  • Certify and maintain Class III biosafety cabinets IAW USAMRIID SOPs and GLP standards
  • Coordinate and collaborate with CAS leadership and personnel to assist in the development and implementation of a division technical training program.
  • Receive necessary training and once qualified by division leadership, assist in the training of other technical staff
  • Hold and maintain BPRP status
